The "Q" Disk manufacturing business leaving CXO won't effect the produces
or CSC functions at all. In fact "Q" will leave the tapes manufacturing
business in Colorado Springs, though they are moving out of the CXO plant.
Rumor has it they are leasing the recently vacated Cray building.
Subsystems engineering and manufacturing and the CSC will stay in CXO and
this is where the adapter/controllers you mentioned come from.
SCSI disks we can buy anywhere, from anyone.

| Quantum is moving the manufacturing to Penang, Malaysia. There
are reports that up to 80% of the Colorado Springs folks who
joined the Q-Continuum will be layed off.
I hope there are lots of openings at "Focus on the Family".

| Specifically, CXO1 (Storage Eng'g) and CXO3 (Customer Support Center,
etc.) will remain. It is CXO2 that Quantum is vacating.
There are a number of technology/manufacturing companies in Colorado
Springs, including Apple as well as other smaller outfits of up to
700+ employees...For those who decide to stay in the area. Denver
& Boulder potentially have more to offer, up the road a bit. My hope
is they find an even better position for themselves than what they must
leave.
At least a subset (all?) Quantum employees who were layed off received
a monetary package beyond their accrued vacation etc.
Re: .-1, Is there lack of sincerity exhibited? We're talking about
people who were employed in a business Digital sold (as in, no choice
to remain at Digital, regardless of performance) and who are on the
street less than a year later. Does mention of the "Focus on the
Family" organization have something to do with this? If you've got
something to vent, why comingle it with this subject?

Actually, Quantum currently occupies space in both CXO1 and CXO2.
Digital also occupies a significant portion of CXO2.

| The inside word is that DEC, er, Digital knew well in advance that
Quantum was going to move the mfg. to Malaysia. These rumors were
floating about at the time of the sale, and were strongly denied
perhaps in order to encourage key technology people to stay on and
keep the sale attractive.
The sale allowed DEC, er, Digital to divest itself of employees and
pocket some cash in the bargain - a short term gain.
Now, we will have a lot of excess mfg. space empty in the CXO complex.
I suppose, depending on how you look at it - you could conclude
that it made good business sense.
