3988.0. "looking for info on events" by TAVIS::ERAN (Eran Gorev @ISO, DTN : 882-3402) Thu Jul 13 1995 14:43

    I'm trying to locate a good source of information on conferences,
    conventions and other kinds of interesting events.

    There is a paper called the "Corporate Events Calendar" that lists
    many events, but I need to find REAL information, like target
    audience, agenda, registration, etc. .

    Any ideas welcome.

    Thanks,
    Eran

    If you are interested in a particular event, you can call or send mail
    to the folks listed on the Calendar asking for more information.

    Some events, primarily technology-focussed trade shows, can be found
    by searching for them by name on the World Wide Web. SIGGRAPH '95, the
    event sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics,
    is an example of this.

    For events that Digital is participating in, the sponsoring group
    usually sends out one or more "Sales Advisories" starting 3-4 months
    before the event takes place. Telecom 95 is a good example of this.
    Its a major show in the Telecommunications industry, held every four
    years in Geneva and sponsored by the International Telecommunications
    Union. The "advsories" usually include the kind of information you
    are looking for. These are usually sent to a Readers Choice
    distribution covering the salespeople for that industry or technology.

    Many trade magazines also include calendars or listings of related
    events along with contact information. These can be used the same
    way as entries in the Calendar you mentioned. The show management
    companies will usually mail you descriptive brochures about their
    events.

    Finally, there is the Tradeshow Week Data Book and Newsletter. The Data
    Book covers U.S. and Canadian shows. I am not aware of comparable
    publications for Europe and Asia, but its likely that they exist.

    The Data Book covers all shows in all industries. For each show it
    identifies the show management, show sponsor, description, recent
    locations, next year location, number of attendees, number of
    exhibitors, profile of attendees, and profile of exhibitors, and
    what survey information is available. Each show has a listing of
    1/6 to 1/3 of a page in book that has over 1700 pages of listings.

    The Newsletter contains articles of interest to the trade show industry
    and a look at upcoming shows both 6 months and 1 year in the future.
    This is a look a very large shows, so it doesn't always include the
    ones we are interested in.

    The Circulation office for Tradeshow Week is at 121 Chanlon Road,
    New Providence, New Jersey 07974 USA, telephone 800-521-8110,
    facsimile 310-825-2039. The annual Data Book and biweekly Newsletter
    can be purchased separately or together. Last known prices were about
    $200 for the Newsletter and about $500 for the Data Book.

  I noticed you are in Israel. Are you interested in trade shows worldwide?
  There is a notesfile called ACM_IEEE that lists most ACM events, and some
IEEE events, in the U.S.

    I can't believe that not one of the one-note psycho-phants
    haven't chimed in with 'don't ask about conferences here',
    'see figure 1', 'rtfm', etc.

    Thank jesus christ that you wrote in mixed case.

SHOW HOURS
==========

The show is being held at Jacob Javits the week of September 19:

Tuesday:   11:00-5:00pm
Wednesday: 10:00-5:00pm
Thursday:  10:00-4:00pm

EXHIBITOR/HOTEL REGISTRATION:
============================

Those people working in the Digital booth as well as E-Mail Village
Green and NT-UNIX Interop Booth should register for their exhibitor
badge through Market Reach. Market Reach is also going to handle
our hotels reservations.

Attached to this file is the hotel registration form which can be
e-mailed to SEETRA::MR or faxed to Tracy Frye at Market Reach
(603-647-2370). This same information will be captured to register you
for your badge. (If you do not need a hotel room, be sure to let Tracey
know that you only need a badge.) Your badge can be picked up at Exhibitor
Registration when you arrive at Javits.

A block of rooms have been reserved at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza.
These rooms will be released on August 12. If you have not registered
by then, you will need to go through Corporate Travel for your hotel.

TRAVEL:
=======

Discounted airfare is available through Blenheim Travel. I am trying to
to coordinate this through corporate travel. Details will be forthcoming
next week (week of August 1).

TRANSPORTATION FROM JAVITS:
===========================

There will be shuttle buses to take people FROM Javits to the hotel
(there are no buses to take you to Javits in the morning). Routing and
hours of operation will be posted at Javits.

SIGNAGE:
=======

If you have signs from either DECUS/UNIX booth in Washington DC or from
UniForum '95 in Dallas, we will be able to use those again. If you need
help in developing your sign text, let me know.

Otherwise, please send me the text by Monday, August 7. If you know of a
customer who is using your product, and would allow us to mention
that on the signage, also submit those names. For example, we could
place a bright starburst on the AdvFS sign that states: "AS USED BY
KIMBERLY CLARK"

PRE-SHOW MEETING:
================

Before the show opens on Tuesday, there will be a mandatory meeting at
9:00 am in our booth #534 at the Convention Center. This will allow all
booth staff to introduce themselves and for us to go over the details
regarding show and booth details.

LITERATURE IN BOOTH:
====================

Each demo area is responsible for bringing booth literature to show.
250 copies of each piece should be sufficient.

LIT KITS:
=========

Literature fulfillment kits will be sent to all customers who come to
our booth. Send your request for literature fulfillment (title/part #)
to UNIX::VOELKER by August 7. If the piece is not orderable via VTX LOS,
send your .ps file to UNIX::VOELKER.

BOOTH ATTIRE:
=============

Our booth attire will be raspberry colored polo shirts with Digital logo
(to be provided at pre-show meeting) and khaki/beige pants or skirt.

** NOTE **

If you have worked in a Digital UNIX booth at either DECUS in Washington or
at UniForum in Dallas, you should already have these shirts. We have ordered
a limited quantity for those who have not worked in our booth recently. Wear
comfortable shoes, but not sneakers.

DIGITAL BOOTHS:
===============

David Valenta is managing the Digital UNIX booth. We also have two
other booths: NT/UNIX Interoperability and sponsorship of Internet Village
Green.

In the Digital UNIX booth we will be focusing on Clusters with Memory Channel,
Digital UNIX Commercial Features and Benefits, PC/MAC/UNIX Interoperability,
and High Availability.

The primary goal of Digital's participation is lead generation and promoting
UNIX clusters, rapid application recovery, and online storage management
solutions.

U.S. Sales and distributors (Pioneer, Avnet, and Wylie) will be represented
in the booth on alternating days to pick up leads and perform sales
follow-up with interested customers.
