3979.0. "Where is Human Resources collecting resumes??" by WROSS1::64997::ROCH_VI () Mon Jul 10 1995 15:56

I would like to put a friend's resume into digital. Does anyone have an idea
of how I do this. I just walked over to our HR department and it's
non-existent right now.

Thanks.

Even in the most intense of Digital's past hiring frenzies, a resume
submitted to Personnel (aka HR) was guaranteed never to see the light of
day again. Back when everyone wanted to work for Digital, this
resume-burying behavior was very useful; you could accept the resumes of
people you would never want Digital to hire, give them to Personnel, and
be secure in the knowledge that they would never be called, much less
offered a job.

In contrast, I've had good success by handing resumes directly to the
hiring manager. It helps if the manager trusts your judgement...

re .1:

After I got my offer here, a headhunter called to tell me about another job.
I told him I'd already accepted a job at DEC. He asked how I'd got it.
I told him that another headhunter had found it for me. He expressed his
amazement that anybody could get a resume through DEC's bureaucracy.

Look into the on-line jobs book, find out the name/address of the
recruiters listed on reqns that approximate the type of position
the resume is focused on, and then send the resume to those
recruiters the resume with a note from you. It's the recruiters that
    do this work, not HR.

Oh, thrills, a computer program deciding whether a resume is
interesting or not. Do our ads now include a list of magic keywords
to be sure to include, or have we just computerized the "send a resume
to hr, you're guaranteed it vanishes without a trace" function?
