| Presumably because we didn't pony up cash. It says it's an
advertising section. I'm not sure we should -- anyone looking
for a company on the web would either try the obvious address or
use InfoSeek, etc.

Theoretically -- correct.
Empirically -- optimistic, "egocentric", and incorrect.
At Digital, we make the assumption that the world evolve around us.
That someone looking at the WSJ's web page, upon not seeing us there,
would make the extra effort to find us. I observe that attitude in just
about every thing that we do, and it has cost us dearly.
It's time to become more maintream. If IBM, SUN and HP are there, then
let's "pony up the cash" and let's get there to. It saves me (an
outside sales rep., front line soldier) from having to "explain" to my
customers -- and detractors -- why it is that we are seeing as
"outsiders".....

We are in the WSJ about twice a week - citing internet connection
points through sending mail to [email protected]. I plan to
reference the Web sites more directly in print ads. SInce we have one
of the most often visited web sites as it is, the added value of this
is low. The same type of offers are also given in many of the trade
papers. This type of opportunity occurs regularly, hardly like this
our only shot to promote a web site. We have bought some internet
banners on a couple of other web sites - and will be evaluating any
incremental traffic gains that resulted.
At this stage, any WWW user
almost assumes an easy address like www.companyname.com to get basic
data, which is a convention almost all of the systems and
software providers follow for web site naming.

While it's probably true that our presence would add little
value (in the form of "new hits"), on the other hand, our
absence is often glaring.

Luckily, either! Like "motorola" or "mot". But I'll bet we fix that!

Ads in WSJ are all about mindshare. In our industry other PCs the
Internet has mindshare. I would think we would want to make sure
we are part of that mindshare in every WSJ reader. I would hope
the IBG group would think so.
The next issue of the directory is July 27th I hope this $13B
computer company with a class A IP address (16) could spring
for the few $$ to get our NAME in the newpaper that most
corporate decision makers read.
I have worked for Digital now for almost 25 years an am still
amazed at how we hide some of our best capabilities. I know it
is getting better but I sure wish we would speed it up.

With all due respect, but yours is the type view of the world
(pathologically New-Englander and short sided) that makes my jobs as
difficult as it is.
When my customer asks me WHY is it that Sun, HP, and IBM are in the
journal's directory, but we are not, they DO NOT want to hear the
story of being a class A IP 16 ........
Our absense creates FUD that our competitors LOVE to use AGAINST us....
