The Digital ASSETS program is being revived to provide a repository for solution building blocks. During Q4 you will be seeing a number of announcements concerning ASSETS. Americas and Europe have announced a revitalization of their programs and AP is in the process of setting up a program in addition to the very successful AP-Notes. Sources of ASSETS software include: o Software developed during an engagement that can be re-used o Software developed for internal Digital use and saleable to customers o Software products developed by engineering which have been discontinued but still are made available. Area contacts for more information include: Americas Program Manager: Jim Nesbit @OHF, DTN 471-5655 Support Hotline: HORUS::MAINTAINER, DTN 474-5359 VTX information: VTX ASSETS_US Europe Program Manager: Marisa Poncini @MLN, DTN 793-8220 Support Hotline: EADC::MAINTAINER, DTN 887-4222 VTX information: VTX ASSETS_EUROPE AP Program Manager: Open Asia: Alan Lau @HGO, DTN 662-3617 SPT: Terry Quanborough @SNO, [61] (2) 5615319 Japan: Following is a brief summary of some of the ASSETS Packages currently available worldwide. Looks like a good collection of VMS software. I didnt see the word UNIX in the previous list anywhere. Did I miss a date somewhere, was this a 1985 message?

re .1 > Looks like a good collection of VMS software. I didnt see the word UNIX > in the previous list anywhere. re .2 > How about DOS and/or Windows s/w ? So how about writing some? ASSETS software tends to be stuff that got written because someone saw a need, or stuff that's no longer on the price books but still may be of use. So, if it's all VMSsy, it's because people in DEC are still largely VMS-based (in the former case) or because they were largely VMS-based (in the latter case). Either way, it's not the fault of the ASSETS guys if there aren't many non-VMS utilities; they're just the middlemen. If there's no supply, ASSETS will have nothing to sell.

ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub... contains hundreds of OpenVMS, UNIX, Macintosh, Amiga, OS2, NT and Window 3.1 utilities from various sources. There even more if you can get a connection to ftp://ftp.wustl.edu/ or other sites on the Internet. -Paul

One of the newest product to the ASSETS library is FTSO File Transfer Spooler for Open Systems. It uses the TCP/IP and FTP protocols to transfer files. It is available for the following platforms: Digital UNIX, OpenVMS VAX, OpenVMS AXP, AS-400 and HP UX The ASSETS team is interested in any new software submissions, so if there is a Digital UNIX tool that could be sold to customers, we are interested. RE: .6 But when is the ASSETS program going to let FTSO on DEC's Internal Network?? Right now, one has to order it from the SSB or someplace else and PAY for it. It would get ALOT of use inside DEC but unless it's freely available, it'll just sit there! I actually have a REAL business need to try this but not if I have to jump thru hoops to get it. mike
3845.10 | SSB ordering is reliable | HORUS::MAINTAINER | Wed May 03 1995 16:13 | 15
All of the ASSETS packages are available from the SSB. This has been done to ensure that when a Customer Order is placed all of the necessary media, documentation and licenses are shipped. Kit availablity on the Internal network is subject to the Product Management team's discretion. The FTSO product is handled through a European product manager. The SSB process for ordering is simple and the charge to the cost center is minimal. Your cost center is not charged list price for internal orders.
