So, this announcement struck me as pretty funny.
1) Is the only good news in the whole damn company something
that happened 30 years ago? Apparently so.
2) If this IS so great, Bob Palmer and the board of directors
must take great pride in forcing, Ken Olson, the guy who
made this happen, out.

great products succeeded due to the efforts of many teams of
people and a receptive market. Ken Olsen may have skills but
making a product a success by himself is not believable.
What next, BP is _solely_ responsible for the enormous success
of Alpha AXP?
Just because a geezer's likeable is no basis for deification.

Who said Ken Olsen was solely responsible? But, I bet that
30 years ago, he had quite a say in which project lived and
which died. Was digital even publicly traded in 1965?
If bringing the pdp-8 to market was a good decision, I think
it's fair to say that KO had a lot to do with making the
decision.

pdp-8 and attempted to keep it hidden from ken ..ko had a tendency to
meddle...
