3658.0. "Our best web service??" by CGOOA::BARNABE (Guy Barnabe - Digital Canada) Tue Jan 31 1995 19:32

    Hello WEBers

Can anyone provide me with a pointer to some of our best or more
popular Web pointers??? I need to feed this to our local freenet folks
here in town. They are looking for general intro to Digital WEB
    server.

    -- thanx,
       Guy

There's oodles of helpful folk milling around in there, each with their
    own opinion of course... :-)

Check out the Announcement Directory, sort of the "Corporate HotList"
-- conceived, written & still maintained by Bob Fleischer of the Web
    Services Group.

If you're not ON the Web yet, you can get a pale, far less useful and
far less populated imitation of Bob's brainchild in note 100 of that
    conference.

-< Status of the Announcement Directory >-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some status on the Announcement Directory:

The Announcement Directory now has listings for 1175
information services and objects, about three-quarters of
        them external to Digital.

We get about 1400 requests per day.

We now have a new announcement form at:

        	http://www-ad.mro.dec.com/announce/forms/announce-form.html

With this form you have the option to pull the text from the
page you're announcing and adding the text (up to 100 lines)
to the announcement. This generally aids in the success of
        full-text retrieval.

(You can still send submissions by mail to
        [email protected] .)

The Announcement Directory is available as either:

        	http://www-ad.mso.dec.com/announce/pa-toc.html
        or
        	http://www-ad.mro.dec.com/announce/pa-toc.html

The Announcement Directory would be even better if it also
had *your* submissions. Think of it as the "corporate
hotlist" -- if you see something that you think others in the
corporation might also want to be able to find use submission
form to tell Digital about it.

If you create a new service, please announce it in the
        Announcement Directory.

As always, please report any problems or suggestions.

        Bob
