| I just read that DECnsr does not work with VMS. Is this true? Maybe I
have an outdated source of information?

| DECnsr (Network Save & Restore) has been officially de-committed for OpenVMS.
It started on DEC OSF/1, and is apparently doing very well there (good
performance, happy customers, etc), and was being field tested on OpenVMS
VAX. The performance was never there, and there were very few customers,
so it was cancelled and never became a product.

| You are right.
There were several problems with the VMS port of Networker Save and Restore.
Not the least of which were budgetary. (It would have cost a lot to support
as compared to the incremental income produced).
NSR is supported on Ultrix as well as OSF/1, where it is doing very well.
So, for the base noter's problem, they should talk to the POLYCENTER
archive/Backup folks unless a move to OSF/1 is in the wind.

| The StorageWorks Desktop Backup/Archiver is implementing TCP support.
The server will support TCP via UCX. The Windows client will support
the Microsoft WinSock API for TCP. There are no current plans to test
or qualify with TGV's IP stack.

3477.5 | TGV Multinet and UCX provide similar functionality ? | TPSYS::BHAT | | Thu Nov 03 1994 18:43 | 4 |

The new name for UCX is DEC TCP/IP Services. If they have TGV Multinet
on the VAX, that should provide the same functionality from the VMS
side.
