| I find METPAY to be convenient, responsive, and their rates are
competitive. It's better to pay the premiums through payroll
deductions, though. Once, I didn't receive a bill because I had
moved, and they cancelled my insurance for non-payment since I
never knew a bill was sent out.
They were very responsive once the problem was found, and even
covered me retroactively....

| Re .5 - FYI, Metpay isn't the only one to cancel like this (meaning, hey, they
ain't so bad!). I once learned that the mortgage company who had bought out my
old mortgage company had not been paying my home insurance when the insurance
company sent me a cancellation notice. I followed a short but high ballistic
curve to my telephone.

| METPAY decided that they didn't want to keep the policies in Penna
years ago, so they doubled by policy premium. I called the office and
they said "we can't cancel your policy in Penna, so if you don't cancel
it because of the increase, then it will increase again."
I quickly got another insurance company. Just for the record, both my
wife and myself have clean driving records, no kids that were driving
yet, and a Nova and a Chevelle station wagon.
I got Maryland Caus. Insurance, and have had them since. I also pay 5K
per year for 4 drivers (2 youthful) on 4 cars.

3459.8 | Metpay likes it if you park in a garage... | CSC32::M_POTTER | All she wants to do is dance... | Tue Oct 25 1994 14:54 | 10 |
| Well, if you *do* use METPAY, be aware that they offer a discount
for parking your car in a garage! I called them last week to see
why my rates had gone up. It turns out that Colorado had a state-
wide increase. I told the gal I thought that was pretty crummy for
those of us who haven't ever filed a claim. She said, "Well, let's see
if there isn't some way to offset that charge," and she found the the
park-your-car-in-a-garage-and-save-$20-on-your-comprehensive discount
for me!

Yes, that's one (minor) reason to park in a garage. Seriously, people in
some places are having major problems with cars parked in their driveways,
even if they keep them locked and have a theft alarm. It's MUCH harder for
a troublemaker to get at a car if it's in a locked garage.

you were misinformed.

| Metpay is great about collecting *their* money, that much I notice.
They're also great about selling me new services.
But, has anyone had an accident lately? Probably due to downsizing and
whatever, I think they've "centralized" this service. A friend of mine
was hit and she ended up having to drive a damaged car way out of her
way (from Marlboro to Tewksbury, I believe) to get it appraised.
I guess the days of on-site appraisers is gone with Metpay. I called
and talked with several confused Customer Service people who gave me
jumbled answers to my questions.
I suggest you give them a call *before* you get in an accident and have
to drive a busted up car 30 miles for an appraisal.

3459.15 | no complaints here | HUMOR::EPPES | I'm not making this up, you know | Sat Nov 19 1994 14:09 | 8 |
| Well, my car was appraised "on site" after it was hit last April, but it
wasn't driveable. :-)
I had excellent service from MetPay in the course of dealing with said
accident (in which my car was totalled). FWIW. (I live in NH, and the
accident happened in Cambridge, MA. Also FWIW.)

My car was totalled last January, and there was no question that the
other driver was at fault. It was almost six months before my MetPay
claim was settled, and then only because I made some fairly indignant
phone calls.
I got better service from the company insuring the guy who hit me.
(Live in MA, incident in CT.)

they sent out an appraiser to my house (the car was drivable)...

3459.18 | incredibly good | POWDML::DUNN | | Tue Nov 22 1994 09:08 | 5 |
| My experience with them was phenomenally good. They sent an
appraiser onsite (not-driveable) and cut me a check on the spot.
Worked in the background with our repair place who was incredibly
detail oriented (and very expensive) and they paid him the balance
minus deductible wiht no questions.

3459.19 | Reasonbly good experience with MetPay | ANGST::wolf.zko.dec.com::BECK | Paul Beck, TSEG (ANGST::BECK) | Tue Nov 22 1994 10:39 | 19 |
| I had an accident a couple of years ago, a disagreement with a guard rail
occasioned by an unexpected sleet storm (and a rear-wheel drive sports car).
I had both good and semi-bad experiences with MetPay as a result:
Payment: the car was drivable (barely, thanks to a borrowed crowbar from a NH
statie so I could get the fender off the front wheel), so I drove it to the
drive-in center in Tewksbury and got a check on the spot. The auto body place
("Doesn't look like a deer this time" was his first comment) took care of any
renegotiation based on later findings (minimal). All that was fine.
Negative: MetPay didn't buy my "weather was at fault" claim and tried to hit me
with un-good-driver points. But to their credit (or maybe by law) they also told
me that I could appeal it with the State (MA) board of whatever and that I had a
reasonably good claim. Bolstered by the NH Statie accident report that was in my
favor, the State board overturned Met and I was not assessed points.
In the aggregate, I've been pleased with MetPay. (They paid off the alluded-to
incident with the late deer without a blink.)
