3390.0. "FAX/AXP Server -- Ideas?" by GLDOA::DBOSAK (The Street Peddler) Fri Sep 16 1994 12:36

Need some help -- I have a customer looking for a FAX server sitting
on a TCP/IP network -- The customer is sold on ALPHA so I want to take
the path of least resistance -- Sure would be nice to have this run on
    a SABLE -- Any ideas -- Third-party or internal -- I'm lookin'!

    Thanks,

    Dennis

You may want to contact Ed Verney in Salem (NIO) and Harry Tankin in
Acton (AKO). Ed may already have what you're looking for, and Harry
could likely tell you what Digital and/or TPs have in this area.

Try them and if you'd like more info, let me know.

The closer to what you are looking for is a fax product from Softline Inc.
a finish company with whom I recall we had some partnership to use their
product as a fax gateway for our new MAilbus 400 product set.
Their product used to be on Ultrix & OSF/1 (MIPS only again this was 2+ years
ago) & I don't know if they ported it to AXP.
The product was nit in a sense that it ised sendmail and was pretty much
easy to configure. Users then use plain Mail user agents to "queue* their
faxes on the server which in turn after all the processessing required
called the fax number etc etc. For inbound fax I think they also had
OCR support. I will dig to see if I still have a desctiption for
the product to send to you. This product supported TCP/IP as transport
only.
We have a product called DECfax mail for OpenVMS but I am not sure if it
has been ported to AXP nor does it support IP either (check VTX IR).
Hope this helps

Thanks for the Information --- I have a list of the ones in this note
file and am following up -- I also imported the Alpha port list and
done a search on FAX -- I only came up with about 8 products -- Most of
    them were from Europe.

Any more information will be appreciated.

    Thanks
