| International Systems Engineering, Managed by Claude Pesquet, is a part
of Shared Engineering Services. ISE's primary job is producing
localized [translated] versions of Digital's products worldwide. ISE
bases its localization services in Valbonne France and subcontracts
most of its translation work. ISE also has groups in Japan, HongKong,
and Israel with a small group in the US here in ZKO, Nashua, NH.
Richard Glantz is an appropriate contact. He can tell you whether the
translation work can be done by ISE and how much it would cost.

You can also purchase (if you can get a VP to sign for it) PC software
that will facilitate the translation for you. There is plenty of it out
there.

| Re .4: don't even think about doing that unless you know both languages.
Those tools may (emphasis on "may") assist, but they can't do the whole
job. A competent human is still required.

until the end of the month, but do send me mail.)
We have done a considerable amount of translation for Digital -- 600+
projects in FY94 -- into French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Hebrew,
Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese Chinese, Japanese, Thai, ...

| I get the impression from .0 that what is required is informal
translation of documents into English on an occasional basis, rather
than a formal translation of a publishable document in English into a
publishable document in another language.
If it is the first that is required then we have employees in
Valbonne who could translate most of the common languages into English.
I know people who are native Spanish or German speakers, but speak good
enough English since it is almost required in DEC, so if it is not a
"professional" translation that is required, and the amount of text is
not too large, try posting it in the BONNET::VALBONNE notes file.

| RE:Translation Services in Digital
If translation into languages other than English are required for
promotional, press and/or other occasional documents used externally
the country communications dept. are used to handle these, either
internally or their usual channels. If anyone needs names, they
can contact the European Communications dept., DTN 821-4397.
Note:this is not for translation of technical documentation.

Thank you for all your responses/help both here and off-line. What we
are looking for is a formal translation of documents on an occasional
basis. I will contact the correct people when needed in the future.
Regards,
Dianne
