I was just reading a Corporate presentation (title: Digital Equipment Corporation: In Focus; path: VTX IR, doc-id OL004Z). There were some slides about the strategic focus, and there's mentioned the 'dual platform' strength. And than it shows INTEL and ALPHA. No word about our VAXes. There'S another slide about C/S Systems, which shows a CISC-INTEL and a RISC-ALPHA. I guess that some of our major (VAX) customers will be very happy about that presentation. Ach!m

Bob Palmer made it fairly clear in his DVN on July 21st, that Digital will be building systems on two architectures, ie Intel and Alpha. He also stated that it was important to continue to keep our installed base "uppermost in our minds" as Digital moves forward and prunes its offerings. I would assume that that would mean slashing the products and services that our installed base is used to, and then offering to migrate them, for big bucks, to Alpha of Intel. Ripping services and products out from under the feet of your installed base has always been a good way to sell migration services :-) Rob | |||||

Just because it says Alpha doesn't mean it doesn't mean VAX or VMS... Laurie. |
