3275.2IBM Revenues upSTOWOA::MRUZThu Jul 28 1994 11:1520
    I read an article in Financial News last week that said that IBM is
    planning to reduce its employee population by 20,000 (or so) to 215,000
    by the end of the calendar year. They may cut more or less depending
    on "customer outsourcing plans and general busines conditions."

    IBM also announced its earnings last week for their Q2. Earnings were
    $689M ($1.14 per share). During the same period of last year, they
    posted a loss of $40M ($0.08 per share) after restructuring charges.
    Their revenues for Q2 of this year were $15.4B, which was an increase of
    3% over Q2 of 1993 (after adjusting for the sale of IBM's Federal
    Systems Company).

    Geographically, revenues were basically flat except in AP where they
    increased 14%.

    Gross progit margins= 39.8%  (39.7% last Q2)

    I didn't read anything or hear anything about stored finished products.

3275.4ibm to auction off excess PC inventoryHDLITE::MODIThu Jul 28 1994 12:4320
    Well, I hear they are also going to auction off their excess PC inventory.

    Viewing:     9:00-12:30 a.m.
    Location Rolling Green Ramada Hotel (Exit 43 off Route 93).

                 Auction starts at 1.00.

    PC Week carried an article this week on page 8 stating that IBM is
    dumping an excess inventory of 486 SX, DX, and DX2-based ValuePoint
    PCs. This could be your chance to do very well on a new machine.
    Machines include 4M or 8M of RAM, hard drives with 120M to 545M of
    storage, and super VGA monitors. All new, factory-sealedboxes. "The
    PCs have local-bus graphics and Pentium upgrade sockets, but became
    obsolete when IBM released the ValuePoint Performance Series in May."
