Subject: URGENT: DVN Postponement memo
This note will be posted on Livewire this morning.
    *************URGENT--DIGITAL CONSULTING DVN POSTPONEMENT*********
PLEASE CIRCULATE THIS MESSAGE THROUGHOUT YOUR ORGANIZATIONS AS SOON AS
    POSSIBLE.
I am sorry to announce that we must again postpone the Digital
Consulting DVN that was scheduled for 28 July.
As you heard from Bob Palmer last week in his DVN message, "Digital's
capability in systems and network integration is absolutely essential
to deliver our core value proposition to our customers." He
reiterated Digital's commitment to this business again yesterday, 26
July, in an analyst meeting when he said, "...let me clarify that we do
not intend to sell this critical segment which is a central component
of the value we deliver to customers..."
Because Digital Consulting is key to the fulfillment of this
capability, the Senior Leadership Team of Digital is examining how best
to structure this business to achieve maximum growth and profitability.
I expect decisions to be forthcoming over the next two weeks. My staff
and I have heard from many of you, and we are aware of the issues that
concern you. Therefore, I feel it is best to delay the DVN so I will
be able to fully answer the questions I know you have.
I have asked for the DVN to be rescheduled at the earliest possible
opportunity. As soon as the satellite time can be verified, I will
notify you of the date. You have my personal assurance that the next
DVN will not be canceled. Thank you for your patience and your
    continued support.
    Regards,
    Gresh

| | The Wall Street Journal reported today that Digital ended talks with
CSC to sell part of DC. The article says, "The talks broke down over
price and over which parts of the business could be separated from
Digital and sold, industry insiders said. The efforts to sell the unit
had been criticized by some analysts, who viewed it as a promising part
    of Digital's future."

So, we couldn't sell it. Now the SLT has to figure out what to do with
DC. Rumors are that we'll either keep "looking forward" or that that
crowd is out and we'll become Software Services again....

    re: why?

I went to a meeting with a high-level manager today. He says the
issue has to do with deciding whether Digital Consulting is simply a
part of Digital (as is now) or another (nearly) independant division.

Once the decision has been made, we should get the DVN. Also, word is
that the "Looking Forward" document is _NOT_ on the line. We should
expect that to remain the model of the new DC.

| | If you make a request to Deb Bergevine @OGO in DC HQ Marketing
and state why you need the document it will be made available.
The last I noticed it was confidential...

Gresh has stated that many times.

And as DC is part of Digital, I guess any employee should be able to
    get a copy.

'Looking Forward' sets out the planned way of doing business in the new
    Digital Consulting.

Looks like the last cancellation was The Last Cancellation! LiveWire says
Brebach has left the company and DC has been split up between MCS and the
Accounts Business Unit in Pesatori's division...all except for OMS (which
i work for), which is still hanging off in space under Bob McNulty.
