Good move. Then we make an equity investment in AMD and manage them as
a holding company that's been discussed in some of the many other
    rumors.

| | We've dumped billions into Alpha for a measly 50k sold to date.
If somebody else in the chip biz with a proven record of agressive
marketing, pricing, and products with good performance wants to
pick up the ball and run with it... I say fantastic. kb

ALPHA was never meant to be proprietary. I believe we want it to
become an industry standard, hence our current agreement with MELCO.
It is also my belief that AMD is looking for Fab capacity for their
486 chip (SQF) and for their future products - a Pentium knockoff -
in HLO3 (Fab6). The most stable rumor around SCO is that we will enter
an agreement with AMD (for which we get $$$) and they get capacity in
our semiconductor fabs, much like the foundry agreement in South
Queensferry. We will maintain control of our engineering direction and
resources. Look for a major announcement on this in a few weeks.

Could be that your customer reads Digital News and Review. In one of
the cover stories they have Digital selling it's Semiconductor capacity
to AMD and leasing back capacity to produce what Digital needs. The price
they have AMD paying is $1.7B. This is not the same thing as Digital
    selling Alpha technology to AMD.
Other things that DN&R has Digital selling is the storage business
    unit to {AT&T | HP | Seagate | Quantim} for $400M to $600M and selling
the networks group to {AT&T | Bell Atlantic}.
To add credibility, they also have Digital making VMS a architecture
    independent operating system.
DN&R makes excellent end of the week reading.

All of the things listed make perfect sense, if Digital is looking to
raise cash and trim costly investments and expenses. The only problem
is that I haven't seen Digital do many sensible things lately.

Maybe we need to leave a few copies of DN&R around where Bob Palmer
    might see them ...

| | If all the profitable business units end up being sold, What's
to prevent our management team from then squandering all the cash
from these sales ? What will it be used for, to invest into the
    remaining unprofitable units ? Hmmm...
