| FYI - It clears purchase of either voting stock _or_ assets.
ie, it could be clearance to purchase a DEC business component.

| Does this mean we'll get Candice Bergen as a spokesman? :-)
How about a variant of the MCI ad, where there is a line-up and
Candice tells how each is guilty of not saving money on long distance.
This could be redone with a line-up of computer purchasers,
guilty of not buying the fastest computers.
Actually, if MCI wants any part of DEC, likely candidates are networks and
our video servers. These would fit in to MCI's business or future businesses,
and help them compete with ATT.

| Is this private or can anyone create a useless, senseless rat hole? Not
only does the company direction seem to wander aimlessly without
direction but also this conference. You couldn't keep this bunch on a
subject with blinders and a guide rail. What ever happened to
insitefull clear thoughts carried hopefully to a meaningful conclusion.
I'm out of here!!

I heard somewhere that some of MCI is being bought out by
British Telecom, (maybe its the Digital part !) :-)

| British Telecom is indeed investing in MCI (old news) as well as France
Telecom and German Telekom are investing in Sprint (20% if I remember
correctly).

| British Telecom purchased (or is in the process of) a 20% interest in
MCI for about $4 billion. MCI needed to expand its international
offerings to compete better with ATT in the Euro. Comm. Interestingly
enough, Sprint just announced a similar arrangement with the
equivalent of BT in Germany and France.
I work in what is left of the old MCI District, doing consulting
services for MCI as part of Digital Consulting. IMHO, MCI may be
showing interest in purchasing Digital Consulting given the on-again/
off-again romance between Sprint and EDS.

Sentinel Delivered by Groupware Advanced Development:
DIGITAL INTERNAL USE ONLY BY INFORMATION PROVIDER AGREEMENT:
BOSTON (AP-DJ)-- Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) is negotiating with MCI
Communications Corp. (MCIC) to sell its high-speed internal data network
to MCI, Digital insiders said.
The computer maker is talking with MCI's Metro unit about a sale
arrangement of Digital's fiber optic based network, which links Digital
offices, manufacturing and research sites around New England. Digital
apparently would buy service from MCI while MCI would be able to pump
other data traffic through the lines.
The expected sale is one of the first moves by Digital to sell assets to
raise cash. It hasn't said what other units may be for sale, though
analysts have speculated that some chip-making facilities or software
product lines could be on the block.
A Digital spokeswoman declined to say what the sale to MCI might bring,
but the relatively small size of the network suggest a sale won't solve
Digital's cash needs. It is valued at more than 15 million dlrs, the
threshhold requiring a Hart-Scott-Rodino filing with U.S. regulators. Such
a filing is expected.
Digital's board is meeting today, but insiders don't expect an immediate
announcements of further actions. As reported, the board is putting
together a sweeping restructuring plan that could include dismissals of
another 20,000 people, or nearly one-fifth of the work force, in an effort
to rebuild a competitive cost structure.

| Personally, I find this idea to be very very stupid and shortshighted.
The talk about selling the DLN (digital lightwave network) has been around
for months. We have one of the best fiber infrastructures in the
Northeast, we need more bandwidth for our internal network. A
perfect match. So we sell it and rent it back???
