3162.0. "Voluntary buyout (TFSO) ?" by POBOX::SUTHERLAND () Mon Jun 13 1994 12:00

    Could someone point me to and does anyone have any updated knowledge
    regarding the voluntary buyout. I've heard the rumour surface again,
    and was wondering if there is any truth to it.

    Thanks,

3162.1why pay for something if you don't have toAKOCOA::BBARRYLaudabamusne RexMon Jun 13 1994 12:1210
    Have heard nothing re: "voluntary" buyout. Again, why would
    this company spend money (getting in real short supply) to
    shed employees, when they can just say bye with no package?

    /Bob

    P.S.

     I would guess that if there was a voluntary "buyout" the rush
    to the door would be a hazard.
3162.2Outside U.S.?TOOK::MORRISONBob M. LKG1-3/A11 226-7570Mon Jun 13 1994 12:403
  I haven't heard any rumors about a voluntary buyout in the U.S. There could
be one or more such programs outside the U.S., and it appears the base noter
is non-U.S. (UK?).

    No, born and raised here in the U.S. (Chicago). Guess I'm just being
    hopeful, that's all.

    Thanks,

    You aren't alone on that count! *Hopeful* is mostly all we have
    in common at this time. Some are hopeful the company turns it
    around, some are hopeful they get some $$ if they do get fired,
    some are hopeful they can survive either.

3162.5Pension buy-outDIODE::CROWELLJon CrowellTue Jun 14 1994 17:008

    Why?

      1) If it is a pension buyout the $$ they give us aren't the companys,
         they come from the plan (another pool of money).
      2) If we take this package they don't have to pay unemplyment
         for us... In effect we just quit with pension buyout.

3162.6Quit with $$$$$$$$$MIMS::BRENNER_CTue Jun 14 1994 18:585

    are you confusing pension buyouts with TFSO?

3162.7leaving without $$$$ZEKE::ABREUWed Jun 15 1994 12:0717

    Some of us are fed up enough that we're quitting without the bucks.
    I've given my notice after 12 1/2 years, mainly because I can't stand
    the b.s. anymore.

    I volunteered for the last wave and was told no. As I see it, I could
    wait for the wave to hit again, or take my fate in my own hands and walk
    out with dignity. I choose dignity.

    I will miss the people that I've met over the years, I will miss
    working for a company that I took so much pride in, but I will not miss
    the company that I am currently employed by.

    My last day is this Friday... I am filled with excitement for a new
    beginning and sadness.

    Good for you Eva but you didn't have to slam the door in everyone's
    face as you left.

     I volunteered for the latest TFSO and was told that, No , you cannot
    volunteer. Yet just one floor above me individuals have been
    volunteering and been getting the package. Also heard that MCS (Field
    Service) was allowed to volunteer (at least in the Boston area).

    Seems to me there should be some consistency in the way this layoff
    is being conducted.

    I imagine if you checked closely, you'd find that no one really
    "officially" volunteered.

Also, if you "volunteer" and tell your manager you have an
exciting new opportunity lined up, you have guaranteed that
you will NOT get the pack.

Lack of ;-)

    	Don, too bad you didn't say yes back in WJO!!

    	The way I see, it if you really want to stay at digital, and
    	are clearly needed to help the company succeed, they will give
        you the boot.

    	If on the other hand, you ask for the package, and even point
    	out that your departure could possibly save another's job, as
    	in abbove example, you will be denied.

    	Surely you jest! :-) Why would they start being consistant
    	at this juncture?
