Digital names Vincent Mullarkey chief financial officer
Robert B. Palmer, Digital's president and chief executive officer,
today announced that Vincent J. Mullarkey has been named vice president
and chief financial officer, effective immediately. Mullarkey, who was
corporate controller, succeeds William M. Steul, who has resigned from
the company to pursue other interests.
"Digital is making steady progress toward the resumption of
sustained profitability," said Palmer. "Vin's appointment, with his
strong background in financial management and controls, is consistent
with our determination to concentrate on accelerating that progress.
It is one of an ongoing series of steps we are taking to strengthen our
management team. Vin brings a record of high energy and broad business
perspective to his new assignment."
Palmer added, "I have worked closely with him, not only in the
last year and a half, but also when Vin served as controller in
Digital's Semiconductor Operations and the Manufacturing and Logistics
operations. He has a comprehensive approach to financial controls, and
demonstrates predictability and financial accuracy. Most important at
this critical time, Vin has an extensive knowledge of the company's
worldwide businesses, having held financial management positions that
cover our operations in Europe, Asia, and the Americas."
Commenting on Steul's departure, Palmer stated, "We are grateful
for Bill's long and loyal service to Digital. The company has
benefited significantly from his many accomplishments. We wish him
success in his future endeavors."

3115.3 | No big surprise here... | POWDML::MCDONOUGH | | Thu May 26 1994 16:27 | 14 |
| Not a real surprise. I'd heard all along that Steul knowingly
accepted the responsibility of the position with the understanding that
his tenure would be temproary, and Mullarkey's "star" has been
ascending steadily for the past few years...this all pretty well
follows true...
What I am a bit puzzled about in the basenote is what the heck a
"Saloman employee" is doing confirming anything??? What has Saloman got
to do with confirming anything??
(Question is, had "The Globe" confirmed anything??)

I believe the base noter was referring to the Securities Firm Saloman
Brothers. The reference was not to a Digital employee named Saloman.

I think that was understood -- I suppose the question being asked was
"how is it that details about DEC high-level staff changes are
confirmed by someone from an outside company, not someone from DEC".

| Please note that .1, taken from Livewire, was entered a few minutes after .0.
DEC isn't allowed to release information like this internally before it
releases it externally, so they make an attempt to do it simultaneously.
I think they did a pretty good job.
