3114.1 | I've heard different..... | MSDOA::SCRIVEN | | Thu May 26 1994 14:11 | 7 |
| I've "heard" that the entire MCS organization, including New Business
and BASE Sales, Service Delivery, and possibly our contract
administration will be sold.
Aren't rumours fun?
Toodles.....JP

| It wouldn't surprise me, but does it make sense with MCS being
a money maker to let it go? So much for value-added service!
And so much for competing with third parties.

| Yep! It's a money maker alright. Unfortunately, you can't sell stuff
that isn't successful.... This and maybe storage are (IMhO) the only
moneymakers that someone might want to buy....

| Well, I doubt there will be an announcement Monday - Tuesday maybe, but not
Memorial Day.
As for the substance of the rumor, I have no idea.

As systems are becoming more reliable and have longer MTBF's, it
makes sense to "ditch" Field Service now and take the $$ it
would bring in.
Just one DECcies opinion,

| RE .3
It has been mentioned elsewhere here, I believe, that an operation
that isn't profitable within Digital can still become profitable
outside ... e.g. because it isn't burdened with overheads; because
it fits well into some other company's business model or product set
etc. ...
So we don't just have to sell "the jewels".
Value is in the eye of the beholder.
Best,
Martin

| if you look at what Digital has done with field circus recently
the rumour isn't all that surprising.
Digital already uses sub contractors to provide service in remote
areas and hires temps whenever needed to cover shortages and projects.
More and more the "Digital Difference" is just lip service.
(no pun intended)
Digital MCS is also getting its butt kicked up and down the street
by TPM's because our pricing is sooo high, because we're trying to
support the rest of the company.

| I thought Digital Consulting was getting its butt kicked up and down
the street, because its pricing was too high, because IT was supporting
the rest of the company.
