3020.0. "FXO Sold" by MILKWY::ED_ECK (Generation X < Group W!) Thu Apr 21 1994 17:08

    Seeing Lynn B's posting about MRO* being sold reminded me
    that FXO in Franklin, MA (Quoth Bob Palmer at one conference,
    "Where's Franklin, Mass?") has been sold to Putnam investments.
    The building will be used as Putnam's Central Investment
    Processing Center and will ultimately employ 1200 people (so
    evidently they'll be refitting the warehouse as office space),
    and will add 700 jobs to the S.E. Mass area.

    Ironically, one of the selling points for the building was the
    amount of electrical power available; the heavy duty service
    was originally installed to power Digital's device test floor.
    (and the first time the floor was powered up, a local substation
    overloaded and burned down!)

    Putnam gets to keep the geese, too.

  The one I recall is that about 4 years ago at one of the DVN broadcasts (back
in the old days when they allowed people to call in line), someone from FXO
called and said he was from Franklin and Buzz Luttrell said "Franklin WHERE?"
I wouldn't be surprised if Bob Palmer said the same thing at one point.

  For those who don't know, Putnam is a mutual fund company currently head-
quartered in downtown Boston. I'm surprised they are big enough to employ
1200 people in the data processing center alone.

  This is a huge site, one of the biggest Digital sites in New England in land
area.
3020.2My bubble's been burstASIC::MYERSFri Apr 22 1994 10:508
    Drats, darn! I kept hoping hope against hope that we'd move back there
    8^) My husband's company, LTX Corp, was also looking at FXO and he was
    hoping that they'd buy it and at least one of us would get the short
    commute.

    Heavy sigh...

    Sorry, Susan. (I hear it's just a 10 year lease--there's still hope!)

    You shoulda been around when the SCO group was in the (now long
    gone) WZ2 building--Flanders Road in Westboro, right over the
    Cumberland Farms bakery, about where rt. 9 and 495 cross. It
    was hard to concentrate on the days when they were baking
    doughnuts. (And it was hard to wafer probe when a semi
    went by on the Mass Pike, too.)

    'Course, when we moved to FXO, I lived just over the Franklin border,
    next to the Charles in Medway. If I got caught behind the schoolbuses
    it took me all of 12 minutes to get to work.
