| According to a Bob Palmer DVN broadcast, the company-wide downsizing effort
just took a little longer to get to Europe. What's being announced for Europe
really belongs with what has already taken place elsewhere.

When I was in the UK, the group I was in heard the first whisperings of
it's rightsizing/downsizing (whatever you want to call it) in 1989 and
it started to happen in the same year.
However, in Germany, the first wave here was around 1991 I think so I
think it's different even down to country level.
Anyway, it's a little immaterial when it started as the effect is still
the same worldwide.
Cheers,
Mark.

| German TV (ARD Teletext) reported yesterday that Digital Equipment
Corporation was deep in the red and would shed 6000 jobs in Europe.
This included 1300 in Germany out of 6200.
