I am confused by announcements like this one today. Ed Lucente is a) Sales & Marketing and, b) Systems, right? So does this reorg relate to all products? ... or only systems? What about Storage, PCs, Components and MCS? I presume it does cover DC? Oh! dear. dp _______________________________________________________________________________ Worldwide News LIVE WIRE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Digital announces 'Americas' area, realigns ... Date: 14-Jan-1994 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Screen 1 of 3 Digital announces 'Americas' area, realigns sales territories Digital has realigned two of its major sales geographies to position the company to sell effectively in emerging worldwide markets, Ed Lucente, vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, announced today. Effective immediately, the United States, Canada and the Latin American/Caribbean territories will form a new Americas Area. Digital Vice President Russ Gullotti has been appointed Americas Area president. The Asia/Pacific Area will be headquartered in Singapore under its president, Digital Vice President Bobby Choonavala. "We see great potential for growing sales and improving operating efficiencies by grouping these sales territories. The Asia/Pacific region is also poised for growth and requires us to concentrate our efforts there with a strong management presence," E said. Scott Roeth, vice president, has been appointed to lead the U.S. Territory. Scott, along with Luis Zuniga, vice president, who heads the Latin America/Caribbean (LAC) territory, and Ron Larkin, vice president, who heads the Canada territory, will report to Russ. Russ will appoint a team to design the Americas Area organization. Until that plan is complete, the Asia/Pacific headquarters team in Acton, Mass. will continue to support Canada and LAC, as well as the Asian operations. "The realignment of these areas, along with reduction of the number of European territories from seven to five announced by Vincenzo Damiani, president of Digital Europe, give Digital a worldwide sales organization that is poised to capitalize on market similarities, regional trade agreements and compatible time zones," Ed concluded.

That's for this week. Next week we'll announce 200 more VP jobs that are for the good old (IBM & DEC) boys network to keep them employed at huge salaries. What drugs are the SLT taking?

After reading the next note and this one, makes me wonder. With all changes and re-organizing that "keeps" going on, how can we achieve the stability that we need to get "back on feet"? Just a question that's all. RC

The BOD was so impressed that they gave the presenters a standing ovation. I wonder if everything is going according to plan.

> I recall sometime ago an interview (Wall Street Journal?) with a BOD > member after Palmer and the SLT made a presentation to the Board on > their strategy. > The BOD was so impressed that they gave the presenters a standing > ovation. > I wonder if everything is going according to plan. Wasn't the strategy accepted by "others" too (outside of Digital)? One wish that I have, is "take your time, think the strategy out well", and "think the organization out well". Then "drive a stake in the ground and and stick with it"! Ever since I've joined Digital, one thing that has amazed me, is the "constant" state of "flux" we seem to put ourselves in. By that I mean, re-organizing all the time. New alliances, new missions, new titles, etc. It's like a moving target --- maybe that's the goal of some? There's a Big Furniture dealer in the area and for the last 13 years, they always seem to be announcing "some type of sale", every week! I'm serious, these guys would have sales to just have sales! Anyway, it's gotten the point that my wife and I won't take them seriously anymore, we won't shop there anymore. Think maybe, we may be have a "credibility" problem with our customers? (that's what I'm hearing and fighting externally with my customers) Also, do you think that our "corporate" leaders are having a "credibility" problem internally (because of the constant shifting of the tide, re-orgs, new titles, etc.)? I honestly believe that "morale" is affecting business and I also think that we're having a credibility problem inside and outside the Corporation. Give me a break, we have "great technology", we have "talented and innovated people". But you know and I know, that that is not all that it takes. Morale within the corporation, credibility outside and inside the corporation and "sailing a steady course" is what it takes. To a corporation one of its most "valuable" assets are its people! (my two cents worth) RC |
