What a waste of paper and time to get it written and published. Thank
goodness 'they' didn't mail it to my home and waste postage money.
So what's wrong with the good ole Orange Book? Why wasn't this part of
that? Like another noter said - mostly common sense stuff but
sometimes common sense isn't all too common :^}
RE: to the noter who hasn't recieved it yet.....
It was posted in VTX that it was mailed to All employees at their last
known interofiice mail stop - if you haven't recieved your copy by
the end of December then you can order one* from NRO (your cost center
picks up the tab directly versus indirectly out of our profits)
Jt
*You can have my copy, drop me a mail message if you want me to send it
to you.

I found it in my snail-mail box and was wondering why the slick,
marketing brochure style? Was that supposed to attract readership?
- to impress our customers?
At least I have a desk reference for the official definition of "core
values" and contact information for the Ethics Office.
Putting the bulleted hypothetical situations in the left margins of
some of the pages was a real teaser. For example:
". You would like to use your company-provided computer for a personal
project after hours" {How does Digital define 'personal project'?
Does that mean just projects for personal gain?}
I'd would like to have had a pointer to where I could find definitive
answers to some of the more provocative issues raised. Perhaps you
discuss such issues in a follow-on training course?

There is a common flip-side to that coin... using personal equipment for
company projects during and after business hours.
Is this usage of any interest to Digital?

Not to throw a wrench, but...
Now, noone can use the excuse "I didn't know". As in here's
your pink slip for (insert reason - ?running your girl scouts song
book on our computers?). What you didn't know you weren't
supposed to do that? Well on December xx, 1993 you received
this booklet in the interoffice mail.....

It is of interest to DEC because your home PC might well contain a
virus that could cost DEC money. I wouldn't expect a problem using your
personal pencils and rubbers on company projects.

I volunteer for any company project that requires I use my own personal rubbers

Actually, the part I found the most interesting was where they
talked about how Digital serves its customers
"CUSTOMER SUCCESS We help our customers and business partners
achieve their business goals through information systems knowledge,
industry experience, networking skills and consulting. We strive
to always outdistance the competition in customer satisfaction"
Maybe it is my paranoia, but there is no reference to hardware in
this message. Is this paving the way for the new 'Digital - Software
and Services Forever.' Doesn't make a lot of sense considering the amount
of $$'s being invested in our semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
Just my $0.02,

I was led astray (in bait setting) by Big Anne (Australian) in the

required of all suppliers who do business with the US Government and their

I think its money well spent.

Perhaps this document is meant to "re-ground" all employees on

| Wonder if Apple has a similar document?
Note the part about the Lear Jet - is this a double standard?
{The Wall Street Journal, 22-Nov-93, p. B6}
According to preliminary proxy information filed by Apple with the
Securities and Exchange Commission, Mr. Sculley, who left Apple last month
and signed on as chairman of Spectrum Information Technologies Inc.,
received a year's salary - $1 million - in severance from Apple. He also
got a $750,000 consulting contract and immediate vesting in unearned stock
options that the company's filing valued at an additional $2.4 million. In
addition, Apple agreed to pay "fair market value" for Mr. Sculley's house
in Woodside, Calif. - the house is on the market at just under $4 million.
And the company said it would buy the Lear jet it had been leasing from Mr.
Sculley's LAS Aviation Inc. for the past two years. Apple paid LAS
$616,320 last year to rent the plane, according to separate SEC filings.

I suspect you have by now. FWIW they only showed up in Colorado Springs this
Monday (January 3) so Dallas probably had the same delay.
Mail from the GMA usually takes a couple of weeks to reach the remote

| Got mine in late December.
There must be some mistake!
I seem to vaguely remember once working for a company
whose ethical and organizational guidelines
matched those outline in the booklet I received -
But they had a blue logo and a shorter name.
And that was a long time ago.
Perhaps I should edit my copy and return it with a suggestion
that the authors revise it to reflect current business
practice realities ?
