2816.0. "Loral buys IBM Unit" by GUCCI::RWARRENFELTZ (Shine like a Beacon!) Tue Dec 14 1993 07:06

Heard on this morning's news that Loral has bought IBM Federal Systems
Division located here in Maryland and that they currently have no plan
to laying off the 6,600+ IBM employees.

For those who may not know, LORAL bought Ford's Aerospace Unit a few
years ago, renaming it LORAL. I'm not sure what the acronym stands
for. Loral is a prime contracter in Digital's Federal Government Unit.
Now it stands to be one of our fierest competitor's also.

Loral is an aerospace contractor no different from Martin Marietta and
will continue to be no different after the acquisition. IBM had 2
integration units with Federal being the one that did multivendor
integration. The other (I forget the name) did IBM only integration and
    that was not sold.

I'm aware of a current contract IBM Federal has that is integrating all
    Digital products.
2816.3What is this FAA project, oops...GRANPA::MZARUDZKII AXPed it, and it is thinking...Wed Dec 15 1993 08:117

And LORAL has just invested in the FAA 1.5 BILLION dollar cost over
run upgrade project. "fierest competitor?" No, not for some time.
They missed on the research of what IBM was doing. Interesting.
