2617.0. "Recognized revenue???" by POCUS::CUFF () Fri Aug 13 1993 10:53

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the verbage in Russ
    Gullotti's April 26, 1993 memo which stated the Q4 1% bonus
was based on "recognized revenue", which means app. 12% less
bonus to me. Unfortunately, I didn't understand that "recognized
revenue" means the revenue for systems and software, less
embedded warranty (hardware and software). Unfortunately the
first official communication I received which explained this
calculation was received Monday August 9, 1993. I was unable
to find this explanation in any VTX database to date.

To sales reps out there, I would be grateful if you'd post or email me
    the following:

    1. A POLICY outlining the "recognized revenue" calculation,
specifically as pertains to the FY'93 Q4 1% bonus. After the
fact, through the mail account set up for questions regarding this
bonus program I did receive several emails which had been circulated,
but none of these really outlined the "recognized revenue" calculation,
    and none ever reached me.

    2. Has anyone been given or seen the exact policy for this year's
compensationplan? By this I mean amore than the slides
outlining the plan, more than the assorted emails we have seen.
I am looking for something in writing which exactly defines how
I will accrue income. Obviously, my concern is to determine if
there will be some kind of impact to my income to do with recognized
    revenue.

I will communicate these throughts with my management shortly, but
sometimes the DIGITAL notes file folks have info different and/or
more accurate than the info received locally.

    Many thanks.

Well, I've never seen the "policy" and Gullotti's original memo cleverly
omitted any clarification of "recognized revenue", but I'm in the same
boat. My "bonus" is a bit smaller than I thought it would be.

I do have a Q&A document, dated Aug 9, which briefly explains this. It's
hard copy only (I deleted the e-mail) so call me if you need to see it.

You're kidding, right? A definite, cogent, written comp plan which
covers ALL the issues? Don't hold your breath. They're still fighting
isues over who gets credit for what, etc.

To my 2 "friends" left in the sales organization: Are we the only
"sales people" left who care about the "new" compensation plan?

Or has this notes file been banned from the sales force outside of
    NY?

Maybe it's the summer blues (can't be green).

    Aloha!

Could be, but it's more likely our sales bretheran are out hitting the bricks
trying to generate business (unlike us in NY who just wait for the customers
to call their orders in!), ;')

Anyway, it's more likely MAC would get an answer in ILBBAK::US_SALES_SERVICE.

Actually, I think the real reason is we don't understand the process
any more than you do. Even the Q&A that was posted left me confused.
I just assumed I was stupid and let it drop.

Re. US_SALES_SERVICE note. It doesn't seem to get much activity, but I
posted a question in there about the bookings from distributors and got
an unsolicited resonse from the compensation people (can't remember his
name). That was appreciated and unusual!!
