2562.0. "Unemployment Questions (Work in NH and Live in Ma) " by WIZZY2::WIRZBICKI () Tue Jun 29 1993 16:30

	Greetings to the group,

I question concerning unemployment beneifits.... I currently work
in Westminster Ma. (WMO) whose been slated to shutdown sometime this
year (Not OFFICAL yet but 90% there). Now since I'm one of the lucky
who gets to go to NQO Nashua NH (Not Offical yet but 90%) I concern
about if I get TFSO (aw okay laided off) where to I collect?

I called the Unemployment office (Fitchburg) and they told me that
if I live 25 miles or closer to my place of work (in NH) then I collect
NH unemployment (big time bummer, max of 180 per wk). If I work/live
in MA the max is 360!?!...

Where do I collect from? Does anyone have any idea... This would really
upset me if I go to NH and get laid off just to collect from NH. I
couldn't really live on it in MA...

Well that it... let's here from you all...

	Thanks
	Mike W. (Westminster_whose_riding_off_into_the_sunset)...

2562.1Where are you located physically ?ELMAGO::JMORALESWed Jun 30 1993 12:2717
Where do you work (in NH or Mass.) ? The employer pays weekly
unemployment taxes at the state (site) where they are located.
Therefore, I you work in Mass., DEC is paying in Mass. (which is
probably a probable higher rate (%) than in NH). and you are entitled
by law to collect in Mass. Now if you work in NH, then you are
entitled to collect in NH (again the legal ruling is that the company
pays the % tax rate of the site they are physically located in).
The goverment lawyers will argue if you submit a request for revision
and they find out that the employer (DEC) was paying a lower (NH) tax
rate and you are claiming the higher one (Mass).
Also, if I'm not wrong, the Unemployment Office papers (you have to
fill them in order to claim your benefits) have a section where you
have to write the physical address of your employer, therefore they
know where it is. BTW, you can not write the address of Corporate
Headquarters, it is very specific and asks for work site physical
    address.
