2361.1 | the MDC I remember | TENAYA::ANDERSON | | Wed Feb 10 1993 13:27 | 13 |
| When I was in Los Angeles, MDC was Management Development Committee.
At that time (1989), it was a review board. You went before them
and were presented with various problems that might happen if you
were a Software Manager (Pre-sales or Delivery). The board was
made up of managers in the software organization and when you were
done, your sponsor (usually your manager, who attends with you) writes
up a review recommending what you need to develop to become a
software manager.
I don't know if this process is still in place or if it's what
you're refering to.

There is an MDC that is aimed at bringing in people after college (often
MBAs) and rotating them through 4 groups. Each rotation was approximately
6 months. Is this the program you are referring to? Your helpful personel
rep can point you to it. I think the coordinator was in MRO4 last I
looked.

I second that...think about what you are saying. Unless they have
changed things alot in the last two years, first you need to request in
in a letter to your DM that you would like to enter the program and why
this would be benefitial for everyone, then there is the assessment
testing to see if you would be a good candidate, then you enter the
program, then you go before the Board ( made up of DM's) which is
really a group interview. All of this is driven by your manager. Once
you pass the Board ( you are allowed two tries) then you are Board
Certified and then you try to find a management position within the
corporation. Good Luck.

2361.6 | Clarification on request for info | ODIXIE::PARK | | Tue Feb 16 1993 09:11 | 6 |
| It might help if the original Noter would specify what they are
interested in knowing. There are other functional Groups which have
participated in the MDP program which do not go thru the same type of
certification process after taking the course. Are you looking for
specific information relative to the program series or the process if
you are a part of the Services group?

| re. 4 No....I understood what I was saying about needing information
from someone knowledgeable.
re. 6 I was looking for the process...I have gotten some very good
information and will pass it on to my manager. He has been looking for
the last 4 months for information (?) and couldn't find any (?). I
guess you just have to know where to look.
Thanks all for your help.

APPPPPPPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
re. 0
I lost my mind once....
ventured into the MDC program..
did all the up front things necessary... (letter, assesment, started
taking management classes)
I regain my mind when I found out I must......
when you go to the "board" you must resite the entire "orange book"
page by page.
sing "Oh.....I'm on a fixed income and all my employee make more
money than me.........."
be able to speak gibberish fluenty
to say what you mean and understand what you said
to be the messenger and remember in DEC, the employees
shoot the messenger
my personal assesment was...
THEY WANT TO CONTROL YOUR MIND....................
REMEMBER... If you want the "glory" and not the pay
a manager you will become
and a manager you will stay.
