2293.0. "D.E.C. offerings for potential biotech customer..." by VSSCAD::FITZGERALD () Wed Dec 23 1992 08:17

Hi,

I'm not sure what organization to contact in D.E.C., thus my posting
here for suggestions.

My brother works for a small biotech company in Massachusetts. He is
preparing a proposal for automating his company's approach to tracking
chemical quantities in his facility. His vision is to cut down on the
guess work/paperwork, and instead have certain individuals in the
organization be responsible for tracking each chemical product.

Since each chemical vendor has an identifying bar code on every chemical
product, he is looking for some scanners and supporting software to track
the chemical from shipping, through quality control and purchasing.

He is very much in the information collecting stage, and is looking for
configuration suggestions and any information on scanning devices, and
accompanying software packages to carry out the task.

I'm looking for someone internally who is knowledgeable about the biotech
industry and willing to discuss D.E.C. offerings with my brother.

As I mentioned before, he is very much in the information gathering stage,
and is a computer novice. Also, there is no guarantee that his proposal will be
funded, but there could be an opportunity here.

If anyone knows of an organization that would be willing to give it a go,
please let me know (VSSCAD::fitzgerald, if you prefer to take this discussion
out of the notesfile)

Thanks very much,
Patti

Take a look at VTX (31. Internal News from the main menu) and it will
give you a listing of the new Business Units just announced. One of
them is manufacturing (sounds like the right one) and there's another
for medical or some such title.

Dee Lanzilotti of the Boston Sales Office (BXO) handles sales to Massachusetts
based biotech firms. Her DTN is 224-1572.

I'll forward your query to her.

sounds like he is looking for an workflow solution. There is a lot of
workflow expertise in the company at various places. Some of it is
with imaging because it oftens turns out that they need each other.

Patti,

If your brother is doing this work in preparation for meeting the FDA
regualtions, than he may also want to look at the Pallette solution.
They are a CSO that can be reached through Uri Klement or Art Lim. They
have some DEC product mixed with some of their own to meet specific FDA
chemical tracking requirements.

    Hi,

You might want to ask around in the Biomedical and Molecular Sciences
conference MR4SRV::MOLECULAR-SCIENCES. You might pick up some reference
    sites there.
