2263.0. "info on 4-10 hr days" by POBOX::SEIBERTR () Fri Dec 04 1992 11:24

I'd like some information on working 4-10hr days. A friend of mine
just started working these hours and she was told to put down 8 hrs of
regular time and 2 hrs of overtime on her timecard. An issue came up
on what she should be putting down for the holidays. If she puts down
only 8 hrs, she will not get a 40 hr check. Also, she was told she is
not considered to be an "R40" because she does not work 40hrs of
regular time. She is concerned about this because she was told these
hours would not affect any of her benefits--however she is concerned
now that it might, especially after being told she is not considered an
"R40" AFTER she took the hours. It was the manager's secretary which
told her this by the way, not the manager. I'm sure she will be
talking it over with the manager, however I thought I'd post a note and
hopefully hear from those of you who work hours like this or you
managers who have people under you who work these hours.

Please don't drag this into a rat hole.

Oh, yes, I did try calling personnel, however they are hard to get to
right now because they are preparing for You-Know-What. That's another
reason I thought a note might be a speedy way for some answers!!!!

    Thanks,
    Renee

    Renee,

I worked a 4 day shift for several yrs. What I remember is for holidays
you would put 10hr holiday. What will happen is she will not put down
time for one holiday, due to you get only so many holiday hours a year.

As for benifits there should be no effect, but she should still talk
with personnel. Hope this was help.

Those who want to discuss the origin of the term "rat hole" please start a Rat
Hole topic. But perhaps it should be done in a VAX Notes conference somewhere.

What would then be considered a rathole in the Rathole topic?

Rene,

She's still eligible for R40 benefits
Holiday pay is 80 hours/year for R40's (this includes 8 hours of location
choice and 8 hours of personal choice) she should be putting down 10 hours of
holiday pay (that she will be charged for) plus 1 hour of misc (to make up for
shift premium) which she will not be charged for. Vacation pay will work the
same way, if she takes a day or two at a time. If she takes a full week of
vacation, she should enter it as 8x5=40 hours.

If she or you have access to VTX (or hardcopy orangebook) at the DCL prompt
Type

 VTX ORANGEBOOK

then do PF1 7 on the keypad (this should get you into a keyword prompt)

TYPE s 6.41 (this will get you into the special workweek section of the Policy
& Procedures Manual, everything is self explanitory from then on).

Sections 2.06 and 6.40 are relevant also.

Hope this helps. If she or you do not have access to VTX, send me E-mail and
I'll extract section 6.41 and send it to you.

Regards
Barry

    >Why do they call it a rat hole?

i dont mean to start a rat hole, but a note is called a rat hole
because like when the mouse when it goes out to look for its foods at
night it digs the sand on the air up high by its back feet and the dust
all over the place and the other nice mouses who want to look for
food too cant see anything any more and they complain about it, that is
we call it a rat hole.

    hope this help.

    now, back to regular discussions.
