2234.0. "Engineering TFSO numbers" by SMAUG::GARROD (Floating on a wooden DECk chair) Mon Nov 23 1992 07:49

There has been a lot of speculation about this round of TFSO numbers.
Well I was given the following numbers and told that there was nothing
secret about them. Therefore I'm posting them here as a service to the
readership so that people no longer have to speculate and to give some
certainty to this this whole sorry situation.

My understanding is that following number of people from engineering
groups (ie Bill Strecker's organization) will be TFSOed on December 7th:

    Group Number to	Total
    Name be TFSOed Population
    ----- ---------	----------
    NAC 144 1,086
    LENAC 14 141
    PCI 60 319
    Gigaswitch 10 53
    Storage 150 1,024
    TNSG 940 5,000
    Sam Fuller's Org 60 419
    M. Patel's Org 70 443

The total engineering numbers are:	1,850 12,868

Yes I know the above doesn't add up to 1,850. I think that is because
not all Engineering Group's are included in the detailed breakdown.
I was also told that 500 people will be TFSOed out of Bill Demmer's
Organization. I don't know the total population size.

If anybody has any more numbers to add that they've been told through
their management chain (as these were) then please post them as
    replies.

Does anybody know how the TNSG numbers break down between the various
    sub organizations?

Try Bob Cohen or Orson Niederhauser

Does it matter? The subgroups seem to be hiring as they downsize.
Of the engineers I know personally who were notified of being
in jeopardy, 75% got other jobs in Digital.

(This is not TNSG-only, by any means.)

Yesterday our (NaC) personnel folks discussed all this. Apparently some groups
in TNSG (and presumably elsewhere) where allowed to hire during this period.
But the net loss was still supposed to be 950 or so.

Well, now that it's history, does anybody know, or has anybody seen,
what the actual numbers were?

Personally, I would take some small comfort in knowing that engineering
was able to perform this task successfully.

2234.6Feb. 14 - St Valentines DayDBSALF::QUINNCrying? There's no crying in baseball!Fri Jan 08 1993 13:5610
Well, as the old saying goes, "It aint over til it's over"

I heard a rumor the other day of a St Valentines Day Massacre of about
16,000 people. And knowing we don't have quite that many VP's (it only
seems like we do), I don't know how they can avoid not touching
    engineering again.

    I know the 14th is a Sunday, so we'll celbrate on the 15th :-(
