2209.4 | Subject: ;syntax | FUNYET::ANDERSON | 21st Century computing has begun | Thu Nov 12 1992 19:07 | 24 |
| Please be careful when creating the Subject: line in your mail message to
HUMANE::DIGITAL. The distribution list process is automated and was not
entirely prepared for the wide variety of ways people specified their addresses.
For those simply saying ADD or REMOVE in the Subject: line, everything is fine
and you may ignore the rest of this note.
For those specifying a VMS address in the Subject: line, the routines now
ignore any extra stuff so that "ADD ME TO THE LIST PLEASE -- FUNYET::ANDERSON"
or "ADD ME (FUNYET::ANDERSON) PLEASE, by the way how are ya doin'?" will work
as well as "ADD FUNYET::ANDERSON".
For those who want to receive the extracts at an ALL-IN-1 MTS address
(first last @ site), please specify this in the subject line. Michael in note
.1, who said he hasn't received anything, had a space in his return address
(SNOC01::SNOC01::MRGATE:: A1::NICHOLLS MICHAEL) that was put on by some machine
between him and HUMANE. The automated procedure took SNOC01::SNOC01::MRGATE
as his VMS address and obviously those extracts wound up in the bit bucket.
You should receive a mail notification within an hour stating that your request
has been processed. If you don't receive the message, and don't receive any
extracts, check the syntax of your Subject: line and try again.

| As our friend Michael has noticed, for a while late yesterday and early today,
some confirmation messages were sent out with the *previous* person's address
in the text of the message. This has been fixed, and does not affect the
addition to the distribution list for those who requested to be added.
To make things simple for both you and me, I am only allowing VMS and ALL-IN-1
MTS addresses at the moment. HUMANE runs DECnet (DECnet-VAX Extensions) and so
can easily send to these addresses. If there is another type of address that
would be helpful, please let me know. Spaces are allowed in the ALL-IN-1 MTS
address, so there's no problem in processing different types of addresses as
long as I know what to check for and how to build the address through Message
Router.

I say this because I got confirmation that the extract should start at
midnight. Then I saw note .14 and it confirmed what I had thought for

2209.19 | Extract service resumes | FUNYET::ANDERSON | Finally, a GREAT winter! | Mon Feb 21 1994 01:47 | 15 |
| To all Digital Notes extract service customers,
The daily extract service from the Digital Notes conference will resume tomorrow
night. HUMANE has been moved to an Alpha AXP system and both the extract
service and the distribution list maintenance software have now been
transferrerd to the new system.
If you have been frustrated in the past with the response time of HUMANE and
used the read-only shadow copy on MORTAL or reduced your use of the conference,
I encourage you to give HUMANE another try. The speed of OpenVMS AXP is truly
phenomenal!
Thank you for your patience the last two weeks.

| Lou,
Mail from HUMANE to some DECnet nodes has been failing since late last week due
to "remote node is unknown." This is an after-effect of the node translation
problems HUMANE experienced last week.
In your case, information for node MROA was bogus; witness your note with a
numeric representation for your system MROA. I've cleared HUMANE's node name
cache of some bogus information, so you should start to receive the extracts
again.
