2165.0. "EIS split from Customer Services" by CSOADM::ROTH (I'm getting closer to my home...) Fri Oct 16 1992 12:33

I thought the 'grand plan' had just 3 umbrellas: Sales, Services, Admin- and
that EIS + FS = Customer Services... now it seems that this it not going to be
so.

I heard rumor/opinion that there was too much difference in pay between like
functions and that EIS pay would have to be frozen/lowered or FS pay raised
to achieve parity between similar functions.

Any idea if this is one of the reasons?

re: .11

If that is true I would expect the results to be rather short-lived,
since I understand that EIS is about to be disengaged from Customer
Services.

I have heard that some 52 family job codes will become 54 family job
codes. This supports the previous reply that EIS will be disengaged
from Customer Services. The transisition will be transparent and will
take place during the next two months.

    Sounds familiar.
In Holland they announced the ESU (Entrepenurial Support Unit).
No HPS / SPS in it. But part of Digital Services.

Has there been any integration on workers level ?? All I have
seen the last five years is change of management structures.

2165.6Integrate at IC level = Yes, mostlyMAIL::LANGSTONDoing my bit to help - VAXnotes at nightFri Oct 23 1992 02:4514
I had the pleasure of managing a 'mixed' EIS and sales support unit
from 1990-1991. Everyone was 52xx job coded. We did a fair amount of
cross-over i.e. a resident would make sales calls and a sales support
person would do 40-80 hours of consulting.

For the last year, I've managed a 'mixed' Services unit with my old EIS
people and a group of Cust. Service engineers. We are differently job
coded now, 24xx and 52xx. We have made progress at integrating
ourselves and acting as one organization. It has been especially
helpful that one of my residents crosses over to help solve LORs
(problems which have become Local Office Referred). And several of my
engineers are mastering software skills, especially ULTRIX and DOS.

Its not a complete integration, but it is happening and it has merit.

In VBO (Europe) I have (soon "have had") the pleasure to manage
a Customer Support unit which became integrated into a larger
EIS (ACT) group about a year ago.
There were great plans to "jointly conduct new businesses" whilst
    continuing "classic support"....

result: unit downsized (from 26 to 10)
continuing "classic support" only, till lights out in 5 months.
