2098.21993 Holiday CalendarLEDDEV::CLARKFri Sep 11 1992 12:2378

Attached is the 1993 U.S. Holiday Schedule. Please note that for calendar
year 1993, there will be 11 holidays because New Year's Day, January 1,
1994 is on a Saturday. We will celebrate that holiday on Saturday,
December 31, 1993 which adds one additional holiday for calendar year
1993. However, in calendar year 1994, there will only be 9 holidays
because no day will be taken off in 1994 for New Year's Day. The total
number of holidays has not changed. Once again 11 days will be taken in
calendar year 1993 and 9 will be taken in calendar year 1994.

The Assignable Day is a floating holiday which the company
assigns to make long weekends where appropriate. It is *usually*
used in conjunction with either Christmas or July 4 when one of
those days falls on a Tuesday or Thursday. In recent years,
it has been:

	1989	Monday, July 3
	1990	Monday, Dec 24
	1991	Friday, July 5
	1992	Thursday, Dec 24

The calendar mentioned earlier was (is?) available through
VTX. Type VTX AMTABLES and I think you can get the calendar
    mailed as a POSTSCRIPT file.

Thanks for posting it. We can't get there in VTX here in Colorado. Things
are really screwed up. Even have 1992 Cafeteria menus posted for this week.

Well now, that all depends on which cluster you're on. I can get

I stand corrected....GENRAL users can't get there from here....:-) So it must
be a system thing so I'll check with the system manager.

And what day is Patriot's Day celebrated on? - it's the Massachusetts
site-specific holiday for most sites. I don't especially care about
the Marathon, but Patriot's Day is nearly always during Passover, so
not having to go to work that day makes the complex holiday logistics a
    bit easier to manage.

Looking at the 1996 calander my guess would be that Patriot's Day
    is Mon, April 15th.

I don't know if it is the Monday before the real date (April 19th), or
the closest Monday to the the real date. It is actually sort of odd
that we even get that day off, since we get so few holidays! It is
just sort of annoying for "unemcumbered" folks like me to find a huge
traffic jam on the way to work on Columbus Day because of the local
town carnival, which most of the town of Sudbury seemed to be at, and
not being able to do a post office run before work as I often do on the
way over here. For folks with children, it gets a lot trickier. Even
the gas station I meant to stop at on the way here was closed for the
holiday that we didn't have. So I got here late, with my car barely
breathing vapors, and no stamps to mail back my bills, on a day that
nearly everyone else in town has off. Sigh...

Whichever date is Patriot's Day next year, it doesn't help make
Passover less complex anyhow, since Passover is real early and predates
    both possible Mondays next year.
