2079.0. "A "sign" of the times ....." by RT90::TRIBE (A whaler out of New Bedford) Fri Aug 28 1992 16:03

Today at about 1:15 a crane was lowering the WANG sign from the big grey
building across RT128 from OFO in Burlington. In view of our tenuous situation
at DEC, it was a particularly startling sight.

I always wondered why companies dont use those signs that is electricity
based, you key in the name of the company on a keyboard of a remotely
control layout , and the name shows in big glittering shiny lights on the
big board of the location of your choice, this way, when then company
shuts down later on, all what has to happen is to key in a new name or
simply delete the name using the erase key on the keyboard.

no cranes and no mess to deal with. reusable or recyclable boards, I think
    that what they are .

    thank you

If you happen to drive by at the right (or is that "wrong"?) time,
you'll see plenty of DIGITAL signs coming down too. We've closed
dozens of buildings in the greater Marlboro area in the last
    couple years.

The Philadelphia Electric Company headquarters on Market Street
has always had such a sign. Which regularly display the PECO
acronym but is often used for other things as well.

I guess this could be a good idea, but of course you must understand
with this idea, you just put thousands of sign makers out of business.

We have proposed several products along this line of reasoning :-) :-)

The state-of-the-art business card is one of these:

    - Physically the same as the conventional business card
    - Equipped with a CPU, LCD display and short-range RF transceiver.
    - Down-loaded whenever it is brought near a Digital facility
with the named person's latest DTN, network address, title, address
    - Goes blank or changes to reflect a new responsible person if
      the named person is TFSO'ed.

Digital has always managed to put their sign a distance away from their
buildings...or mmay it is my imagination...in anycase, all digital has
to do is up root the sign and transplant it to another facility...

Does any one know if any of digital's signs are attached to a building?

PHO (Blue Bell, PA) did. Did, because PHO consolidated with PHH 6
mos. ago. Building is now empty but the sign remains attached to
building with "Office Space for lease" sign posted in front of
    property.
