Aviation Week & Space Technology, a highly respected trade
magazine reported the following in their 17 Aug 1992 edition. 
It appears in their Industry Observer column on p.13.

		"JOINT-STARS TAGGED FOR ALPHA"
        
RAYTHEON CO. WILL BUILD military versions of Digital
Equipment Corp.'s 64-bit reduced instruction set computing
Alpha archecture under a new licensing agreement.  Alpha-
based workstations will be used on U.S. Air Force Joint-STARS
aircraft (AW&ST June 8, p.13).  The licensing agreement will
allow Raytheon's Marlboro, Mass., Equipment Div. to use
Alpha in a wide range of real-time processing needs that meet
Mil-Spec requirements.  The Alpha architecture is designed to
run on DEC's VMS and OSF/1 and Microsoft's Windows NT
operating systems. By using militarized Alpha chips, it will be
possible to develop software on either commercial or military
computers and transfer it to military systems without modifica-
tion, reducing errors and costs.

Hmmm, I wonder if taxing down the runway in one of these souped
up 707's could be considered "Business Mileage"?  Nah...

Is this a typo?  I though operating systems are normally considered to run on
hardware rather than the other way around...  :-)

    alpha was designed specifically to be a plug/unblug type of
    modularity, based on object oriented approach to design and modern
    encapsulation theory of data structures, as long as the interface
    is adhered too, it can be used as a black box in any type of 
    configurations, as long as the clients of the architecture comply
    with the design specifications in the corresponding relevent sets
    of documenations and respond with the correct messages to the
    appropiate servers modules, it is possible to set it up in a variety of
    different layouts, this is the power of modern design techniques,
    I read that this is the way of doing things from now on, and will
    be the norm in years to come and into the twenty first century in
    the days of our lives.

    Nope, no typo..  But, yeah, the wording did also strike me as being
    reversed. I'd leave out the word "on"..
