Strike Singapore from the list. We are transfering products
that we used to build in Puerto Rico to them.

I doubt that the Ayr plant is closing, that's the home of the ALPHA chip.

Are you sure of that? I thought that the semiconductor plant
making Alpha chips is South Queensferry, not Ayr.
(both in Scotland though)

All DEC employees that are currently working at Cupertino plant will be
laid-off on the first week of this July. This is not a rumor, because
I used to work there.

| RE: Dick,
If I may ask, what products are y'all transferring to Singapore?
Or more directly, are the products that are being tranfered, PWB's? Just
curious. There is a lot of speculation here @ GSO about us taking a
lot business that y'all were doing there in Puerto Rico. Of course,
that's in addition to all the other rumors floating around.

Seeing that the plan is to cut the number of DEC manufacturing plants
by half, I can believe it. Ayr is a bit of a shock though.

At least it would be if it were true.
The VLSI group are losing 77 people, thats all.
Not a rumour, this was announced some weeks back.

1861.16 | KLO (clonmel Ireland) going going gone !! | MEALA::OHARA | | Thu Apr 30 1992 12:25 | 34 |
| Clonmel (KLO) ireland closes its doors at the end of June. About half
the employees have been re-located to GAO (about 110 miles away). The
remainder have opted for severance. Clonmel has been operating with a
Nuclues of around 80 for the last 12 months. Last week we were told
that the building was sold to a local international engineering firm
MF.KENT (KENTZ),
specialising in large scale construction - EuroDisney, Facilities for
the Olympcis in Spain, Oil terminals, etc.
We, the remaining employees, had hoped for another Multinational Mnfg
firm as they provided the best chance for re-employement.
KENTZ will "offer employement to 15-25 former DEC workers in the area"
The jobs will be admin, secretaril type.
Most people in the plant are P*.*.*d off and are not keen on the new
firm, as they know of their work ethic and conditions. WORK TILL YOU
DROP and we will pay you something !!
It is sad to see a plant that had 350 people, and was quoted as the 3rd
best Mnfg plant in DEC, winding down. We are losing people at the rate
of one a week at present, which is comforting in the sense that they
are they can get work but at the same time sad to see the demise of
what was once a very proud and integrated workforce.
I came to KLO from GAO when it was green field and watched the plant
grow in both blocaks and people. The quick sale of the plant to a non
mnfg co. leaves an Old Deccie (15 years) with a bitter taste.
I am starting a new business in July and need a computer for my office.
I wonder what I will buy ????
Hang in there. I do belive DEC will get better but I think the
principles, philosophy, ethics that made DEC great are going to be a
footnote in the Company history.
