1709.0. "53 weeks this year (:-) )" by ELWOOD::KAPLAN (Larry Kaplan, DTN: 237-6872) Thu Jan 02 1992 10:47

    The calendar anomaly that provides 53 Thursdays (and thus paydays) in a
    year is upon us again. (The last time this happened was 1987.)

    Certain pay items should be calculated YEARLY - for example, payments
    to METPAY. Are there any others ? How are these deductions handled ?

1709.1NH View, 16 December. What a joke!COVERT::COVERTJohn R. CovertThu Jan 02 1992 12:137
I just spent about ten minutes trying to figure out why the calendar published
in New Hampshire View shows 54 Thursdays!

The reason is that it shows a June 31st, two September 30ths (my birthday
comes twice this year?!), a September 31st, but no August 29th or 30th.

    Yes,

      Truly a collectors item.
      However, this is what you get when you use one of those automated
      tools that quietly brings those widow 30 and 31's up to fill out
      the blanks on the previous line.
      Aren't computers wonderful! :-)

    A whole new batch of the DEC. 16, 1991 issue of New Hampshire View
    showed up in the lobby of TTB for distribution to the employees today.
    These "new" copies still contain all the calendar errors noted.

    Send me mail if you want your very own "collectors" copy 8^)

Just for the record, the calendar is correct in the January 13 issue of NH View,
which showed up in the ZKO3 lobby today.

    Back to the basenote for a minute. Metpay bases the weekly deductions
    on 50 weeks not 52. So this year we get 3 *free* weeks instead of 2.

1709.10Is this for real ?ELWOOD::KAPLANLarry Kaplan, DTN: 237-6872Tue Jan 28 1992 13:064
    Whasis ??? I've never gotten any "free" MetPay weeks. When are they
    supposed to occur ?

1709.11maybe it's the other way around?TOOK::ROSENBAUMRich RosenbaumTue Jan 28 1992 23:479
    MetPay based on 50 weeks, hmm.

    If my yearly payment is $500, does that mean my weekly payment is $10
    (based on 50 weeks)? In which case, in a 53 week year, my annual payment
    becomes $530 (when it is supposed to be only $500)?

    Seems a little odd.
