| I have my expense reimbursement checks direct deposited to the same
bank that receives my regular paycheck. Petty cash in MK2 had a form
to fill out, works fine. Seems to take a couple of days to see the
money in my account.

They can sign you up instantly and deposit your expense voucher
to your bank account on the spot if your paycheck is being direct
deposited. If your paycheck is not directly deposited, it will
take longer.

Sorry Peter, but what is a petty cash window??
For those of us that are not in GMA, there is NO window to go to. If
I didn't read this conference, I would not know about this program at
all. Good thing there is Traveletter to cover most of the expenses or
many of us would be in deep dodo waiting for reimbursments.

P.S. So how do I get a form to send in??

| re. 0 If you can't find a Petty Cash person close to you, then contact
your Financial Management Center. The FMC's are where the EFT's are
actually created. Your FMC is in Shrewsbury. Call DTN 237-2347 and ask
for a Petty Cash EFT person.
re. 5 I believe your FMC is in CXO (even tho it's called Northwest FMC
it also serves North Central). The DTN is 522-2625.
This info comes from page 266 of the current telephone directory.

| For those of you who do fill out the DIRECT DEPOSIT form for
your Employee Reimbursements, please make sure to put down your
full name instead of a nickname in the spaces that ask for it.
EMFMC sends out an electronic confirmations via MTS to you. For
example if your name is Susan Doe in the employee master file,
chances are your MTS entry in the local message router that serves
your site will be SUSAN DOE @LOC. If you put down SUE instead of
SUSAN then it might not reach your electronic mailbox. The
confirmation will then be sent by other means like interoffice
mail. This has caused MTS managers some headaches as they're
getting complaints from some of the users saying that 'their
ALL-IN-1 mail isn't getting through' when in fact the problem is a
nickname just needs to be added for that user to the message router
database.
If you think that you might have put down a nickname rather
than your full name, then take a moment to contact your MTS manager
(preferably by e-mail) and ask them to check if there is a nickname
in the message router database for your entry. That way messages
will get through to you if anyone on Easynet sends a message to you
via MTS that is using your nickname rather than your full name.
A little education:
MTS is the Message Transport System and is unique to Digital.
MTS is some internally developed and supported software that
works on top of MESSAGE ROUTER software. Message Router
software is an externally released product. It uses mailboxes
to deliver mail. For example MRGATE is for VAXmail, A1 is
usually for ALL-IN-1, AM is usually for A1MAIL.
The two most widely used user agents are ALL-IN-1 and
VAXmail. But everybody thinks that it is part of ALL-IN-1 and
that you need an ALL-IN-1 account in order to get mail sent via
MTS. This is not true. You just need to be an employee and
have an entry in the message router database that supports your
site. Most DEC sites around the world have MTS support.
Thank you,
Bryan King

Actually I lied. I work in the field in Detroit but I report through
an EIC in MKO. And my manager sends the expense reports to Maynard! So
why would I even consided going through Colorado Springs?
But you have help me make my point which is that there needs to be a
general announcement of this option. Not word of mouth, not fillered
through multiple lays of management but a single announcement sent (via
the top of the paycheck maybe?) to everyone. AND more importantly,
more thinking has to be done on what people in the field need in the
way of information.

1601.14 | You can have Traveletter and Direct Deposit | SMOOT::ROTH | Do not hold in hand. Light fuse and run!! | Thu Sep 19 1991 11:51 | 23 |
| Here in the 'field' I've been signed up to have expenses deposited into
my DCU account for a few years now as well as using a 'Traveletter'.
I've seldom used the direct deposit feature because I seldom exceed my
Traveletter limit.
If you look on a DEC expense form on the right there is a box for
Traveletter (D) and Refund (E-C-D).
Let's say your Traveletter has a $500.00 limit but you incur $550.00
expenses in a week. You end up getting $500.00 in a Traveletter check
and $50.00 as a 'Refund'. If you have the direct deposit it goes into
your account, if you don't then you get issued a check.
You could, of course, write "VOID" on the traveletter check, enter 'zero'
in box (D) and you would get the full $550.00 as a refund.
If you request a cash advance that will be direct-deposited as well... I
know that feature works because I just did it a few weeks ago prior to a
trip for some training.

The only Direct Deposit program available through Traveletter
at this time is with the DCU. It must be a Checking Account. Project
Specialists are working on adding additional Financial Institutions onto
the Electronic Funds Transfers.
When you submit your expense vouchers and are expecting a refund,
the refund will now be deposited directly into your checking account with
the DCU. On the day the voucher is processed, a notification will be sent
and the funds will be in your account the first thing the next morning.
If you wish to go on Direct Deposit, complete the attached form
and return it to:

DCU Direct Deposit Enrollment
MWFMC Traveletter
In an effort to expedite the turnaround of Employee Expense
reimbursements and cash Advances, we offer you the option of having
these disbursements directly deposited into your Digital Credit Union
(DCU) checking account.. Please note that this service applies to
CHECKING ACCOUNTS ONLY, and that members with only a savings account
are not eligible.
This service can alleviate waiting for disbursement checks to process
through the mail system, and will insure that the funds are in your
account, available to you within the shortest amount of time possible.
If you choose to select this method of reimbursement, notification will
be sent to you the day the transaction is processed. The deposit will
be made to your DCU checking account the day after the transaction is
processed. These funds will then be available to you, and you can
access them through your checks, your local DCU, or your Easy
Cash/Monec card using the automatic teller machines.
Please note that once you are enrolled in this program, ALL
disbursements will be directly deposited until you cancel your
enrollment.
If you are interested in this service, please complete the form below
and return to the MWFMC Traveletter Department at CXO2-1/P96
(VIXEN::DETMER).

| The answer in the other note was better, I.E. that they are working on
getting this to work for any account not just DCU.
Why was it better, you ask? Because I don't have or want a DCU account!
That was the reason I did not sign up for it when it was offered for
Traveletter users (that I do remember seeing :-)). When I read about
EFT, I assumed it was real EFT (and it is!) but the fact that Traveletter
users do not have the option makes me a non-user of EFT.
For those who split hairs, the means that is used to make the transfers
to DCU checking accounts from Traveletter is NOT EFT even if it is done
electronically. To be EFT, it has to go through the Federal Banking
System.

Digital Credit Union Under Fire
Bad loans, new fees spur hundreds of angry members to protest
The state's largest credit union, shaken by bad real estate loans on Cape
Cod, has hundreds of angry members who want to replace directors and rescind
recently announced fees.
Members of the Digital Employees Federal Credit Union have submitted a
petition with 1,220 signatures, seeking a special meeting.
The credit union has 88,000 members, who are Digital Equipment Corp.
employees and their relatives. The credit union and the Maynard-based
computer maker are separate corporate entities.
With $384 million in assets, the Digital credit union is the largest
in Massachusetts.
The angry members, who formed a group called the DCU Special Meeting
Committee, were responding in part to the credit union's link to $18
million in bad real estate loans from the failed Barnstable Community
Federal Credit Union.
The Digital credit union bought 75 to 90 percent of the Hynannis credit
union's participation loans -- which are shared by more than one lender --
thus becoming exposed to heavy losses, according to court records.
The large commercial loans were for motels, subdivisions and other
commercial projects mostly on Cape Cod and the South Shore around Boston,
according to registry records.
The Digital credit union fired its president, Richard M. Mangone of
Norwell, on April 5.
Mangone also was a charter member and the first chairman of the Barnstable
credit union.
Mangone was named as a defendant in one of the nation's largest credit union
fraud cases, filed in June by the National Credit Union Association.
But the "firecracker" that sparked the Digital petition drive was the
credit union's August announcement of new checking fees to generate more
income, said Phil Gransewicz, of Holden, spokesman for the committee.
Mary Madden, a credit union spokeswoman, told the Cape Cod Times that
the new fees have been put on hold pending a review by DCU's new
president, Charles Cockburn.
The decision to review was made before the petition was received,
she said.
Madden said the members' petition has been validated and a special
meeting will be set. The committee wants to elect a new board of
directors and rescind new fees and minimum balances on checking accounts.

Ah, I see the rathole yawning beneath us...
BEIRUT::DCU has complete (and accurate!) information about the
situation reported in the Herald article. Lest we digress from the
subject at hand, further discussion of the merit of transfering
any funds specifically to DCU should probably go there. (Press KP7

BTW, if the article in .17 is news to you, and you are a DCU member,
you owe it to yourself to become familiar with the issues.
