is somthing else entirely.
One might try the SHALOT::EMPPURPRO notesfile...

THe Employee Purchase Program is predominantly centred around PC
systems but you can get a PV014-BA (MOno VS3100 1 * 104 Mb disk) for
only $6,660. Sheesh, I can buy a fully blown MAC IIfx for about half
that... I'm just hoping that some new hardware coming along soon does
the right thing.... :-)

Where can you buy a "fully blown MAC IIfx" for $3,330? If I remember
correctly, the IIfx is the most expensive Macintosh. A "fully blown"
configuration would probably cost between $9,000 and $14,000 (list --
you could probably get 30% off fairly easily).
Digital EPP prices do seem pretty high - it takes the EPP discount to
make Digital PC prices begin to approach the normal price of clones -
but let's not understate other vendors' prices.

Apple's external EPP gives 30% off, Apple Developer Price is 50%, Apple
internal EPP works out to about 70%. I have a friend who can buy at the
devo rate. I am told from a good source, that the fx will drop
significantly in price, when the new IIex hits the streets in a month
or so.

To check what PDC is offering, try:
$ VTX PDCSTORE
This is a "new" VTX database, it still is being initially loaded, so
keep checking in - the selection is growing.

I get a "%VTX-E-BRKNOKEY, There is no page with that keyword" error
when I try the above. Is this another service that only east-coasters
have unequal (i.e. "unfair") access to, or is something just not configured
properly on our main nodes here in Colorado Springs?
Not to get upset (too much), but if there are reasonable deals on
surplus gear that only a limited numbers of DECcies are privy to, then
something is wrong!

VTX PDCstore lists only non-computer items.
You can't compare a MAC and a workstation. MAC is not
a unix machine, not a RISC machine, while DECstation has
the potential of running OSF in the future. That is probably
why DEC won't offer it in EMP.

Since PDCSTORE stuff is cash and carry, there's not much point in it
being available outside New England. I don't know if this is the reason
you're having trouble with VTX, but I doubt if you'd want to shlep a
bookcase from NH to CO.

I think the concern here is, WHY is this stuff only available in
Mass./N.E.? WHY does surplus/salvage have to be shipped back to that
area to be sold off...? WHY not have a place here, that employees living
here can take advantage of...? WHY should the east be exclusive to this
stuff.?????

I think your absolutely right. Maybe you should contact somebody
at the PDC-store and find out why they're doing this. I'm sure that
it would be more cost affective to sell surplus goods locally than
shipping them all back east.

| Before you jump to the conclusion that surplus furniture and the like is
shipped from all over the U.S. to Contoocook, NH, you might consider
contacting your local facilities people to ask them what happens to
their surplus stuff. My guess is that the PDC only gets stuff from
New England.

Gerald,
As one who had spent February thru June '91, working a DEC-Flex
contract in Contoocook on the Idle Assest program (recycling DEC's
unused equipment back into the company i.e. DIAL). I can safely say
that PDC was receiving stuff from everywhere i.e. San German PR,
Pheonix Ar, Cupertino CA as well as locations on the east coast. Since
they closed Pheonix and it's associated PDC, there is only one PDC for
the US/GIA, not sure what Europe does.
