I will be traveling to the DC area this weekend, and I'd like to log in while I'm there. I need a local dial in number for the area which would then enable me to dial up the computer in westford. Where could I find this information/Does someone know a local number? Thanks.

1488.1 | Get your machine on TYMNET | SMEGIT::ARNOLD | Some assembly required | Thu Jun 06 1991 22:54 | 12 |
Your best (and cheapest) bet, if your home machine in Westford can be accessed via TYMNET, is to get the local TYMNET number for the DC area and use that. The TYMNET number can be obtained via 1-800-336-0149 and entering the area code & exchange of where you are. I use that all the time while on the road to communicate with this machine in MKO. Yea, there's a bit of character delay sometimes, but it's *MUCH* cheaper than calling long distance from Timbuktoo to MKO, and alot less headache than trying to get a local system manager to give you access to a often-non-existant "guest" account on the local system. One place to ask: For assistance, please call the FASDER Helpline (DTN)379-6666/(301)306-6666 Or try this: RESPONSE CENTER at DTN 385-4349 Both are Washington Area support shops that should be able to assist in pointing you the right information.
1488.3 | go with Tymnet area 36 is to slow! | MAASUP::FILER | Fri Jun 07 1991 10:19 | 11
I would go with the TYMNET option if I were you the net in area 36 is sooooooo slow Tymnet would give faster responce. When I go to training it takes me forever to get signed in to get my mail from area 36, even at off hours. Other students set host to systems all over the world and get faster responce. If you still insist on geting into a system here in th dc area there are dial in lines at our data center located in WDC (near the Cap center). I don't know who is in charge of that sort of thing any more (people are moving / being transitioned) but you could call DTN 424-2211 and ask. Jeff Filer |
