1021.0. "2-months-jobs needed for SW-trainees in the US" by UFHIS::WMUELLER (Wolfgang Mueller @UFH Cust Trg Munich) Mon Feb 05 1990 08:16

Who has a job for trainees (1-3) for two months in the US/CANADA?

The trainees have working knowledge of VMS, COBOL and FORTRAN.

Background:
Ed. Services Munich is offering one-year-classes for people who
need retraining in DP and IM - with considerable success. The students
- most of them have a university degree in social sciences, management
sciences, engineering or something else - have excellent job opportunities
after finishing these classes.

The German Labor Administration is funding this retraining program.
The curriculum consists of: VMS, FORTRAN, COBOL, Operating/System
Management, ULTRIX, C, Rdb, DECforms, CDDplus, DECnet ...

Training on the job - in the midth of the course - is part of the
curriculum. The purpose: to get the students involved in little
projects, to make them responsible for developing/testing of small
applications.

As our experience has shown the students can do useful jobs.
They mustn't be pampered all day long. They don't get any money for
these two months.

Please contact me if You are interested in hiring these students for
two months:

	Wolfgang Mueller @UFH
	DTN 773-2174

I'm the project manager for retraining program.

	Cheers Wolfgang

PS: I'll put this topic also in other conferences.

What he means is that your cost center doesn't have to pay the students a
salary -- the program is funded by the German government, which pays the
students a stipend.

Does the government also pay their airfare to come to the U.S. or Canada?

Is the stipend sufficient to show evidence to U.S./Canadian immigration
authorities that the person will not end up on public assistance roles?

Is it even legal in the U.S./Canada?

Subject: Software Trainees

We have just read your note about jobs for trainees in the US and
Canada. We are interested in finding out more information.

We have 2 projects currently underway in the Washington, D.C.
area where we could potentially use these students. One involves
knowledge of VMS and C while the other is VMS, COBOL AND Rdb.
Both of these projects could benefit from some additional coding
support.

We would be interested in learning of the number of people
available, the expected timeframe and any additional particulars
i.e. logistics, language skills etc.

We look forward to hearing from you and are excited about this
possibility.
