| IMO, these "awards" are more political then anything else, I grant you that
alot are probably deserved, but I believe that at least as many are politically
motivated. What I mean is a manager says "I can use two slots so I'll send
two of my people each time as a general bennie, or better yet me and one of my
people".
As an example how can a sales admin group send people to the sales excellence
awards every year? How many bucks did they bring in? Which brings up another
question if a sales admin group can send people why not customer admin or
DIS or .. well you get my drift.
I have a hard time personally, understanding the rational behind all these
awards, but I will admit that for those people out there selling its
most likely justifiable, but an admin group?

I was an award winner last fiscal year for DIS. What was hard to
swallow was that we were not allowed to take our spouses or SOs
to the presentation. Alot of my coworkers were not amused at this
and made their feelings known. The management I believe agreed that
this was not the right thing to do , but nothing could be done about
it. Our protests fell on ears that could not change the way it would be
undertaken. So what happened was excellence award winners staging thier
own form of protest any way they could. You figure it out, play the
game, or find something else. It is a shame politics gets involved. Or
should I have said sham.

| IMNSHO i'd like to see all the d---ed "excellence" awards done away
with. I only have direct experience with one, DECATHLON. The
cheating, political positioning, swapping and general undercurrent
of decadence that I personally observed was disgusting.

Sounds like my experience working for the U.S. Postal Service.
