| I too am interested in this information.
The silence to the .0 question speaks volumes, no?

| In typical Digital fashion, no one organization is
in charge of the retraining efforts. There are some
manufacturing plants which have set up their own;
other groups in MEM are coordinating their efforts.
Corporate DIS also runs some reskilling programs;
and I'm sure there are many others. Some of these
groups have asked Ed Services to help them, others
are pursuing other routes.

938.3 | It might exist but try to find it | ISLNDS::BAHLIN | | Wed Oct 11 1989 12:38 | 26 |
| I went to an orientation for Career Opportunity Days (COD) where
the message de jour was "we have all of these field assignments
that require no experience, just go through our magic training
and we have a job for (good job, good wages :*) ) you".
But the requisitions all require 5 years sales experience, or 22
years experience on an operating system we've only sold for 1, or
a skills mix that is unimaginable ( 5 years selling + 10 years mfg
+ 10 years writing code + managerial experience + speaks four languages
and walks on water ).
Call and apply for one of these beauties.
"You're not qualified."
"But, but, I thought there was training?"
"Training?"
"Yes, the training that was explained in COD orientation!"
"What's COD?"
I'm confused...............

B I N G O ! You are not the only one this is happening to, although I do know
there are a fair number of people getting offers and making the move.
How does one get Field experience without without getting into the Field and
being there for some period of time?
No one has a stronger desire to move to the Field and contribute than I do
(and I believe I can contribute more in the Field than I can here in
corporate), but either there are many people applying with exactly the right
skill set match, or I'm blowing the interviews. The more than half-dozen
interviews I've been on have all gone very well from my perspective... Maybe
its the garlic and onion sandwiches that I'm hooked on... :-)
I've narrowed my relocation possibilities to two specific areas, so I haven't
dealt with a variety of locations, but it has been somewhat frustrating.
I know I can do the job(s) if given the chance and opportunity to learn, but
how do you get that chance. Many of the interviews said I'd have to attend the
intensive Sales Support or Sales Training. I said "No problem!, I live 20
minutes from Boylston, Mass." ...Doesn't seem to matter.
The only somewhat comforting (?) thing is that I know of a person who went
interviewed, didn't hear anything for a month, and then got a call that they
wanted her to start in two weeks....
