826.0. "How to Recognize a Company Car" by MERIDN::MATTHEWS (Disobey this command.) Fri May 26 1989 15:13

Why are company cars so popular ? The reason seems to be that they
have special features not found in private vehicles.

    1. They travel faster in all gears, including reverse.

    2. They accelerate at a phenomenal rate.

    3. They enjoy a much shorter breaking distance.

    4. They have a much tighter turning radius.

    5. They can take bumps at twice the speed of private vehicles.

    6. Oil and tire pressures and battery and water levels do not need
to be checked nearly so often.

    7. The floor is shaped just like an ashtray.

    8. They can be driven up to 100 miles with the oil warning light
    on.

    9. They need cleaning less often, especially inside.

    10. The suspension is reinforced to allow reverse to be engaged
while the vehicle is still moving forward.

    11. The tire walls are designed for bumping into and over curbs.

    12. Unusual and alarming engine noises are easily eliminated by
the adjustment of the radio volume control.

... and a good way to start my long weekend in my company car! I think
this in the topic about the demise of plan-A somewhere.

In my case, it's the nicest car in the driveway!

I think the author of .0 is implying that people who drive company
cars don't really care about them and treat them harshly. While that
may be true for a certain number of DEC-mobile drivers,be aware
that there are people like myself who treat their cars with a bit
    more respect.(especially when it's one's only car)

I personally have purchased two "company cars" to be used as the
second family car. That is my intention with my present company
car. Therefore, I keep it nice and have regular maintanence done
on it. And if it isn't a lemon, I couldn't possibly keep the
family in a decent second car in any other way.

i enjoyed the base-note. i've seen it before (it's one of those
flyers we see every now and again...like murphy's laws).

shame of it is, it speaks a lot of truth.

i gave up my company car last month to take a new job (not in field
service). it was my only car. in the 8 years i drove a dec-mobile,
i saw many abuses of them, especially in the area of maintenance
and cleanliness. but, the personal cars owned by those same people
were just as badly abused. and dirty.

Leaving a ball game with a friend who's in sales at HP. While trying
to negotiate post game parking lot traffic, said friend yells from
his HPwreck to driver of another vehicle who is in contention for
the same lane, "Hey, look out, this is a company car". Driver of other
car yells back, "So? Mines a rental." Wham! He hits us. I had
a good laugh. Wasn't my car!
