| Corporate Employee Communications has indicated that the
rumor about a vice-president resignation is false. The
DIGITAL conference moderators are currently waiting for
an official message from that group. That message will
be posted here as soon as possible.
In the meantime, this topic is write-locked. Please refrain

'Nightly Business Report' to broadcast retraction
During its broadcast this evening, The Nightly Business Report (a news
show that appears on public television in the U.S.) will correct a
statement made on yesterday's program (5/24/89) regarding Digital.
The correction is as follows: "Contrary to NBR's report, there is no truth
to the rumor that John J. Shields, senior vice-president of Sales, Service,
Marketing and International has resigned from Digital. He continues his
leadership position with Digital's senior management. This has been
confirmed by Digital officials."

| Personally I don't believe that speculation regarding the employment
status or leave of absence status of *any* DEC employee is useful or
beneficial. It is certainly not considerate of that employee. This
note remains here only because the information was widely reported
and the transmission of the official denial appears to be in the
best interests of both the individual in question and the corporation.
I am setting this topic NOWRITE. Discussion of that action may be
taken up off-line with myself and/or the other moderators of this
conference. The commands SHOW MODERATOR and SEND/MODERATOR can be
useful for that sort of thing.
