732.0. "Hark! Hidden Treasures" by OKEY::COHEN (To reach beyond your grasp) Fri Feb 24 1989 10:23

I discovered the following through a friend. It sounded interesting, but
made me wonder if there are other hidden or obscure Benefits/Employee
Services that we would all benefit from knowing about. If you know of any
use this note to pass them along.

Mark

Note 503.0 Employee Auto Leasing Program (US only) No replies
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure it's very publicized, but Digital has an Employee Leasing Program
that you can participate in. It's run by INC.RATE and you can contact them
at 1-800-451-0932.

I've been visiting area dealers looking at leasing a specific car. For that
specific car they all start out wanting $350 per month for 48 months with some
of them being an open end lease and some closed end. (If the price is the same
a closed end lease is better). I got some of them down to about $330, but that
was the best I could do so I left without buying.

The exact same car through INC.RATE is $247.00 for a closed end lease with
60,000 miles, taxes included.

They admit they're more competative on American cars, but they have foreign
cars as well. If it's something like an ISUZU the difference isn't as dramatic,
but the Toyota prices seemed very good.

732.1car plan?WR2FOR::BOUCHARD_KEKen Bouchard WRO3-2/T7Fri Feb 24 1989 15:544
    I'm not sure,but I think you don't see this in the orange book because
    it doesn't apply to all employees,only those eligible to participate
    in the car plan.
    Have you talked to personnel? Maybe I'm wrong.(again)
732.2It's not a secretDR::BLINNLife's too short for boring foodFri Feb 24 1989 17:3010
        Since Mark stripped the date out of the note he posted, we can't
        confirm when it was written. I believe the Employee Leasing Plan
        (through INC.RATE) is available to any employee (you pay the
        cost), and was announced as part of the stuff around the car plan.
        But I'm not patient enough to dig through the car plan topic right
        now to search for it. It's not in the "orange book" because lots
        of things aren't in the formal Personnel Policies & Procedures
        manual, not because anyone's trying to keep it a secret.

732.4TELGAR::WAKEMANLAAnother Eye Crossing Question!Mon Feb 27 1989 13:197
    The deal with INC.RATE was made while plan A was dead to help those
    affected get a decent deal on the car. You might find some reference
    to it in the middle of the "Death and Resurection" note. It is still
    available to DEC employees, but only those who were affected by the
    Plan A death heard about it.

732.5stress reduction classesMARBMS::TOPPINGMon Feb 27 1989 16:4610
    This is about a different "hidden treasure" benefit. I was told
    by a friend that Digital would pay for courses for "stress reduction".

    Apparently, this could also include "hobby" type classes. I was
    unable to get more info, but this sounds awfully generous.

    Can anyone confirm this one way or the other??

    Re:-1

    Stress courses? Sounds like somebody's wishful thinking like that
    rumor about free glasses for over 40 employees.
