Maynard is close enough.

I kind of doubt it. There are a lot of hotels in the general area
that are probably cheaper (not necessarily better) than Stouffers.

| There is a VTX base for Educational Services that has info on Bedford area
housing. If your system has the "US Videotex Library" then you can get to
it via the keyword 'EDSERV' as follows:
$ VTX EDSERV
Here is some info gleaned from the EDSERV database:
Employees are put in hotels when no more space is available in
Digital Housing or by specific request from their managers.
Because of the special financial arrangements Student Services
has with local hotels, ** all reservations ** have to be made by the
Housing Registrar. Contact them at DTN DTN 249-4677 or (617)276-4677.

| Also, a new VTX service has been announced recently for US travelers.
It should cover the Boston Area, too.
If you have a standard VTX library menu, look under "ADMINISTRATION"
for the "TRAVEL" entry. Or, use the ol' reliable (?) "VTX TRAVEL" command at
DCL.

| Stouffers Bedford Glen is nice....but expensive. Last time I stayed
there the Digital rate was $114/nite. The Marriot is worse ...$130.
If fancy surrounding are not important, the Days Inn in Burlington
isn't bad..$84/nite DEC rate. There is also a Days Inn in Woburn
for the same price. They are the old Holiday Inns. I saw a new
Radisson on route 3 and 495. We use them a lot out here in the
west and get pretty good rates, you might want to call.
Everyone knows how outragous the prices are ANYWHERE in the Boston
metro area, nobody has ever complained about the hotel rates I
have charged.
Luck,

| Another thing you should do is go to a large public library and get
a copy of the Boston Yellow Pages. (Your local telephone company
should be able to get it for you.) When I needed to find lodging for
some visitors last year (during a weekend when several major events
were occurring in the area) I found a number of smaller places in the
Bedford area, all of them clean and acceptable at reasonable (in this
day and age) prices -- $50-$60.
Try these (all area code 617):
Bedford Motel, 30 North Rd., Bedford, 275-6300
Catch Penny Inn, 440 Bedford St., Lexington, 861-0850
Lord Bedford Motor Inn, 340 Great Rd., Bedford, 275-6700
Travelodge Bedford, 285 Great Rd., Bedford, 275-6120
May be higher priced:
Battle Green Motor Inn, 1720 Mass. Ave., Lexington, 862-6100
Colonial Inn, 48 Monument Sq., Concord, 369-9200
Quality Inn of Waltham, Totten Pond Rd., 890-3000
Waltham Motor Inn, 385 Winter St., Waltham, 890-2800
There are others a little farther away. All of the ones listed are
within 15 minutes drive at rush hour.

675.7 | A B&B could be a pleasant alternative | DR::BLINN | Roy Orbison died for our sins | Thu Dec 08 1988 17:21 | 8 |
| There are also Bed and Breakfast inns in the general area (some
have recently been featured on "This Old House") that might
be a pleasant and inexpensive alternative to standard hotel
accomodations. You can find listings in any of the B&B books,
which you should be able to find in a good library, or you
may be able to get your travel agent to find them for you.

Avoid the Holiday Inn and HoJo's, though.

This is where I lived when I first relocated to Bedford. Not
a bad place at all.
The number in case it wasn't mentioned in a previous note is 617-935-8760.

| re-.7 The Bed and Breakfast sounds great. I've been watching
"This Old House" too and thought it would be a wonderful change
(That is, if I ever have to go to Bedford again).
For those of you who did see "This Old House", there are several
Bed and Breakfast inns in the Concord/Lexington areas.
I have stayed in the Concord Inn on the commons in Concord. Nice
little Inn in a wonderful historic area. Don't know what the Digital
price is but during the summer of '87 it was only $60. It's about the
same distance to Bedford as Woburn.
