648.0. "Metropolitan job solicitations" by HPSCAD::ANASTASIA (Roll with it, baby.) Mon Oct 31 1988 13:40

Did any other METPAYers get a job solicitation letter from
Metropolitan Life in the last few weeks? When I read the letter I
couldn't believe that Metropolitan would actually solicit people who
worked for a company where METPAY is offered. To me, the letter says
that Metropolitan Life places no value on it's relationship with
DEC.

I spoke to Lisa Kane - DEC benefits liason - about the letter. She
knew about it and said DEC is working with Metropolitan to change the
METPAY contract. She suggested writing a letter to John Malloy - he
works for METPAY, sits at the Mill (MLO3-2/T66, METPAY). I have been
thinking about switching to a new insurance carrier and this helped me
decide real fast. I am writing a letter to Mr. Malloy (a copy to Lisa
Kane - CFO2-2/K18) to explain that I am cancelling my policy and that
I think that the solicitations of this type are unethical.

As long as Metropolitan Life didn't target just Digital's employee
base (assuming they used their MetPay customer list), or didn't
otherwise go after Digital employees because they're at Digital, I
don't see anything wrong with this. After all MetPay is offered
at MANY companies, and many of those companies have employees with
skills that Metropolitan needs in running their business.

If, on the other hand, Metropolitan targeted Digital employees
        ONLY, then perhaps it's inappropriate.

        I personally think you're over-reacting. But, that's your right
in a free society, just as it's your right do decline their offer
(or to accept it). That's one of the things that's good about
living in a free society -- you're not bound to just one employer.

with the offsetting benefits of discounted car/house insurance and
payroll deductions, I'd just treat is as one of the 18 pieces received
daily at home/work -----> right to the garbage can!

I don't think I'd cancel a policy over it and I'm not sure of the
ethics, BUT 'that sure is TACKY!'
