425.0. "Jobs for "trailing spouse"?" by IND::ROUNDS () Mon Nov 30 1987 11:04

My husband is quitting his job-of-11-years so I can transfer from the
New York area to Spitbrook, NH. Does DEC offer any kind of job-finding
assistance to "trailing spouses"? I'm not getting much response from
the various recruiters I've called.

    You could try posting his resume in OASS::JOBS, or talk to your
    manager at the site you're relocating to. The P&P only addresses
    spouses who also work at Digital.

        However, the "gotcha" you're up against right now is that most
        managers (certainly those in engineering and marketing) are under
        pressure to minimize hiring, and to hire from within where ever
        possible. Like 425.1 said, put his resum in JOBS, and ask for
        help.

425.3Try the fieldRITA::NANCYVTXFri Dec 04 1987 15:3311
    When my husband got a new job in California, I applied as a transfer
    applicant. There were/are no special promises to you. Because I
    had the skills, however, I was immediately hired. I was going OUT
    to the field from corporate which is quite favorable compared to
    going from the field TO corporate.,i.e., they are ALWAYS looking
    for good people in the field. So, if I were you I'de apply to the
    Burlington Woods field office, the Bedford NH field office, or,
    if desparate, the Metro Boston district. They should have plenty
    of openings because now that the freeze is on, its only 'revenue
    producing' groups that get req's. Unless, of course, you have some
    connections thru him.  GOOD LUCK!

    Woops, sorry. I thought YOU were the one looking for a job.

    But, the same advice would apply....have him try the field offices.
    and again, good luck. ...N
