398.0. "Call American Express for classical music" by SMAUG::GARROD (Reagan's brain was diverted to the contras) Sun Oct 04 1987 23:46

Now that we use American Express as our travel company it appears
that there is a way to listen to classical music for free.

Just call the 'Emergency' 800 number of travel assistance. I've
needed to change a flight a couple of times when on business.
Last time I was put on hold for 12 minutes.

So if anybody wants to hear a complete symphony just call the
    Amex 800 number!

Has anybody else had the same experience? Does anybody know when
the ONE travel assistant will be going on vacation? Did they fail
to staff up properly for the Digital account? Does anybody think
we should go back to Crimson Travel even though they had a habit
of finding the most expensive flight and hotel that they possibly
    could?

398.1not a big problem hereTIXEL::ARNOLDNo BE's allowed in this areaMon Oct 05 1987 08:577
I've only had to use the Amex 800 number twice, and both times it
was on a Sunday evening, once around 7pm, once around 10pm. And
both times, I got to listen to about 2 minutes of the Brandenburg
concertos. Two minutes I can handle, but I find your 12 minutes
    somewhat "dis-concerting".

The only time I've had to use the Amex number was when 4 of us
traveling had mised a flight connection, due to one plane being
late arriving. One of the guys I was traveling with called, had
immediate connections, and within 5 minutes we ALL had new
arrangements... no problems, no hassles, no nothing...

You must have gotten the office on a very bad day, after all, all
offices have a very bad day at least once every X years :-)...

Give them a break... and to their credit, at least they gave you
music to listen to, instead of dead silence!

Frankly, I have been less impressed with AMEX than Crimson. On
three separate instances, I had to 'prompt and prod them' into looking
    at/for lower fares...most annoying.

Then, on the other end of the spectrum, they call after I've booked the
flight, to announce that they've located a 'better' fare, only to find out
it isn't even a direct flight, much less non-stop.

I suspect they are still working out the bugs in their system.
